A method and system for the application of foam insulation onto a surface or into a cavity include a sheet with an aperture, where the sheet covers or partially covers the surface or a cavity with the aperture adjacent to the surface or cavity. A pressure-activated foam generator which generates foam is coupled with the sheet. The pressure-activated foam generator includes a frangible output seal with a ruptured position. The pressure-activated foam generator is positioned so that in the ruptured position the foam has a path from the frangible output seal through the aperture and onto the surface or into the cavity. The sheet is connected to cover or partially cover the surface or cavity, and the pressure-activated foam generator is activated and the foam flows onto the surface or into the cavity.

Expanding foam insulating system and method

A packaging assembly in which discrete cushioning or blocking and bracing members are strategically positioned so as to provide improved protection of an article such as during shipment and storage. The assembly includes a substrate and a predetermined 2- or 3-dimensional pattern of cushioning members such as inflated (e.g., gas-filled) bags selectively and optionally independently affixed to the substrate. The pattern of cushioning members is predetermined in the x, y and z directions such that, when the substrate is positioned about the article, e.g., by folding the substrate, point contact between the cushioning members and the article is created. A method of fabricating a shock protective assembly for packaging an article is also disclosed.

Packaging assemblies and method of fabricating same

A packaging method and apparatus employ web material having cohesive on facing surfaces of two web portions between which an item is packaged. The cohesive adheres to itself by application of pressure alone, without heat, but tends not to adhere to other surfaces. The web portions are sealed together about the item by seal devices that apply pressure without heat to the web portions. The web portions and item can be passed through a resilient nip formed by two rolls, at least one of which has resiliently compliant roll portion(s) for pressing the web portions closely about the item.

Packaging method and apparatus

A packaging apparatus includes a pair of rolls forming a nip through which two web portions are passed with an item to be packaged between the web portions. The rolls include resiliently compliant roll portions that deform to accommodate the thickness of the item, and the roll portions press the web portions to seal them together in peripheral regions surrounding the item and to center the item between the webs in the thickness direction. The apparatus also includes side seal devices that traverse inwardly toward the item to seal the webs together close to the item's opposite side edges to prevent the item from laterally shifting. The web portions may have cohesive disposed on their facing surfaces such that the web portions adhere to each other with pressure but tend not to adhere to the packaged item or other surfaces.

Packaging apparatus and method

A system for heating and dispensing foam-in-bag packaging bags comprises a housing that rotatably supports a roll of a continuous web of interconnected foam-in-bag packaging bags, and at least one heater for heating bags to an elevated temperature prior to the bags being dispensed from the housing. A heated bag is dispensed and is detached from the web, and is then manipulated to mix foam precursor chemicals contained in separate compartments in the bag to begin a foam-forming reaction in the bag.

System and method for production of foam-in-bag cushions

An apparatus is disclosed for enhancing the mixing of foam precursors in foam-in-bag precursor systems, to thereby enhance the quality of the resulting foam. The apparatus comprises a heated chamber for storing bags containing the precursors in separate compartments, an opening for dispensing the heated bags, and mechanical agitators for externally agitating the bag containing the separated foam-forming precursors to mix the precursors and form foam. Also, a foam cushion packaging precursor is disclosed and comprises such a heated bag.

Foam in bag packaging system

A method is disclosed for of enhancing the mixing of foam precursors in foam-in-bag precursor systems, to thereby enhance the quality of the resulting foam. The method comprises externally agitating a bag formed from plastic film material and containing separated foam-forming precursors, to thereby mix the precursors and form foam, and wherein the bag has been warmed to a temperature above ambient temperature prior to the agitation.

There is provided a method for adhering precious metal to vitreous substances or bodies. Precious metal (including but not limited to, gold, palladium or platinum) is deposited or applied to the surface of the vitreous body. After such initial application, which may include a preheating step, the outer skin or membrane of the glass is made plastic and sticky by superheating. This change in viscosity allows the glass to bond to the deposited precious metal. The superheating process is completed quickly before distortion of the contour of the vitreous object and unwanted vaporization of the deposited metal take place. After the superheating process is completed, the object is annealed conventionally to room temperature.

Method for adhering precious metal to vitreous substances

A foam in bag cushion precursor is disclosed that is particularly useful for manual operation. The cushion precursor comprises a bag formed of two sheets of flexible plastic film material closed on all four side edges; a frangible seal that defines separate interior cells in a portion of the bag; a first foam precursor composition in one of the interior cells; and a second foam precursor composition in another of the interior cells. One of the cells has a nonfrangible seal wall other than one of the side edges for directing the contents of the cell to mix with the contents of the other cell before the mixed contents enter the remaining portion of said bag.

Foam in bag packaging system for manual use

A foam-in-bag packaging system is disclosed that comprises a mixing device for mixing foam precursors in a bag of flexible plastic film material sealed on all four sides by respective edge seals and having a plurality of frangible seals therein defining three separate interior cells in the bag. Two of the cells separately contain a first and second foam precursor composition and the cells are located at one end of the bag. The remainder of the bag is vented for permitting gases to escape from the bag as the foam precursors form foam while preventing foam or foam precursors from escaping from the bag. The mixing device ruptures the frangible seals to form a single interior cell and mixes the first and second foam precursors. The mixing device includes a cylindrical chamber to confine the one end portion of the bag containing the two cells with precursors therein, a clamp for clamping the bag adjacent these cells with the remainder of the bag projecting outwardly from the cylindrical chamber, and rollers within the chamber for rupturing the frangible seals and mixing the foam precursors within the one end portion of the bag while the clamp prevents the precursors from entering the remaining portion of the bag.

Mixing device for foam-in-bag packaging system

A foam-in-place packaging system is disclosed that comprises a bag foamed of two sheets of flexible plastic film material sealed on all four sides by respective edge seals. A plurality of frangible seals are between the two sheets and define three separate interior cells in the bag. The frangible seals extend between the edge seals or between an edge seal and another frangible seal to thereby define a single cell bag when the frangible seals are broken. The cells separately contain a first and second foam precursor composition, and the bag includes means for permitting gases to vent from the bag as the foam precursors form foam while preventing foam or foam precursors from escaping from the bag. As a result, when the frangible seals are entirely broken, the separate cells foam a single interior cell in which the first and second foam precursors can mix thoroughly and react entirely to eliminate precursor residue and permit the resulting foam to expand properly and flow freely within the resulting single interior cell of the bag.
