Non-limiting examples described herein relate to representation of intelligent object movement. Examples described herein replace pre-canned object movement actions and provide new data transformations that better emphasize context related to object movement. An action for placement of a data object may be received. Non-limiting examples of actions comprise a movement of a data object or an object insertion of one or more data objects. The action is analyzed using an object movement data model that evaluates a context for placement of the data object. Insertion characteristics are applied to the data object based on analysis by the object movement data model. A movement of the data object is surfaced, through a user interface, based on the applied insertion characteristics. An exemplary surfaced movement presents a motion animation of the data object from an initial position within the digital canvas to a resting position within the digital canvas.

Intelligent object movement

An object stack feature for graphical user interfaces can include a method for arranging items displayed in a visual interface into a stack where each item of the stack has a corresponding visual representation in the stack. The method can include in response to receiving an indication to stack two or more items displayed in a visual interface, creating a stack object comprising a list of the two or more items and a seed value for an ordered seed. The ordered seed can be supplied to an arrangement function that outputs positions for items in the stack object. An arrangement can be generated using the arrangement function and each of the two or more items can be displayed in the visual interface in the arrangement generated by the arrangement function.

Techniques for ink anchoring are described. In one or more implementations, an interactive canvas is displayed on one or more display devices of a computing device. An ink object is generated by digitizing ink input received to the interactive canvas. In response to determining that the ink object overlaps an object in the interactive canvas, the ink object is anchored to the object such that a spatial relationship between the ink object and the object is maintained if the ink object or the object is manipulated.

Document authoring that involves illustrating pen input in an authoring environment is herein improved to provide greater control of colors and patterns for representing the pen input in a graphical user interface. Colors and patterns are provided as effects that are applied to the illustrated pen input so that multiple textures or colors may be applied to the illustrated pen input without requiring the user to manually signal a switch in texture or colors or using multiple objects to represent the pen input. In various aspects, effects may be layered on top of each other, and the effects may be stretched or tiled depending on the size of the illustrated pen input.
