The disclosure relates to an apparatus () for decontaminating an enclosure that includes a passage having an inlet () to receive a carrier gas from the enclosure, an outlet () to discharge the carrier gas to the enclosure, a fan () for causing a low of carrier gas through the passage from the inlet to the outlet, and a vapour generator () where a decontaminant vapour is introduced into the flow of carrier gas to be discharged with the flow at the outlet to decontaminate the enclosed space. A further fan () delivers a separate flow of gas from the enclosure bypassing the passageway in which the decontaminant vapour is introduced to be delivered into the enclosure from outlet vents () adjacent the vapour outlets () to assist in dispersing the carrier gas containing decontaminant vapour throughout the enclosure.

Method and apparatus for decontaminating enclosed spaces

An apparatus for sterilizing a sealable enclosure includes a circuit for flow of a sterilizing gas or gasses. The circuit is connected to the enclosure to be sterilized to form a closed circuit and pumps to circulate gas through the circuit and enclosure. The circuit has parallel branches one of which contains apparatus to deactivate a sterilant to be added to the carrier gas flowing through the circuit and apparatus to dehumidify the gas. The other branch contains apparatus to heat the gas and apparatus to supply a sterilant vapor or vapors to the gas. Control apparatus determines which of the parallel branches the gas flows through. The control apparatus maintains flow through one branch passage until the relative humidity falls below a predetermined level. The flow through that branch is then terminated and flow through the other branch initiated.

Method and apparatus for vapour phase sterilisation

An enclosure () for carrying out operations under sterile conditions having apparatus for sterilsing the enclosure and its content includes a gas generator () having a fan () for producing a stream of air and an evaporator () for evaporating hydrogen peroxide solution to be carried by the airstream throughout the enclosure to condense on surfaces in the enclosure to sertilise the surfaces. A pump () is provided to draw gas from the enclosure at a location remote from the gas generator to ensure that the sterile vapour reaches the most remote part of the enclosure from the generator and also to maintain the pressure in the generator below atmospheric pressure around the generator so that any leak path in the enclosure results in leakage from the atmosphere into the enclosure and not release of sterilant vapour to atmosphere outside the enclosure.

Apparatus for bio-decontamination of enclosures

An apparatus for removing a sterilant from a sterilant containing atmosphere of a room includes an enclosure having an inlet to receive sterilant containing air from the room following sterilization of the room, outlet nozzles to return air from which sterilant has been removed to atmosphere, and a catalyst within the enclosure for removing sterilant from the air. A fan draws sterilant containing air from the inlet through the catalyst and thence to atmosphere. An additional fan is provided to circulate air containing sterilant from the room during a room sterilization process through that part of the enclosure which is downstream of the catalyst to ensure sterility of that part of the enclosure for the sterilant removal phase.

Apparatus for removing sterilant from a sterilant containing atmosphere

A method of sterilizing a sealable enclosure includes initially adjusting the relative humidity in the enclosure to a level substantially below ambient, circulating a carrier gas to the enclosure at a temperature raised above ambient and supplying a sterilant vapor or vapors to the circulating carrier gas sufficient to saturate substantially the gas. On cooling in the enclosure, a condensate of the sterilant vapor is formed on surfaces in the enclosure, which is measured whilst continuing to circulate the gas/vapor until a required amount of condensate has been formed on a the surface. Supply of sterilant vapor to the gas is terminated whilst circulating the saturated gas/vapor continues to maintain the condensate on the enclosure surfaces for a predetermined period of time. Finally the sterilant vapor is extracted from the chamber.

Methods and apparatus for vapor phase sterilisation

The network security of a radio local loop system is highly desirable to avoid fraudulent use of the network by unauthorised users with appropriate subscriber equipment. For fixed subscribers, the propagation delay between base station and subscriber unit will also remain fixed and, provided this is measured with sufficient accuracy, the distance from the subscriber to the base station can be determined. This can be used as an aid to the authentication of a subscriber. Other signal characteristics which are indicative of the physical location of a purported subscriber can be used, such as directional information. In a system in which propagation delay has to be monitored anyway, for other purposes, such as orthogonal CDMA code synchronisation, or for a TDM system, added security can be obtained without great extra cost.

Subscriber authentication for radio local loop system

Apparatus for a radio local loop for a telecommunications system, such as a base station (1) or a subscriber station (2), comprises a first unit (4, 13), which includes call processing and speech transcoding/encryption apparatus (8, 17), and which can be housed in a friendly environment, such as within a telephone exchange or within a subscriber's premises, and a comparatively rugged second unit (3, 14) which includes a modem (11, 22) and radio transceiver (12, 23), and which can be housed, in the case of a base station, at a site remote from the exchange, but central for the subscribers which it is to serve, and in the case of a subscriber station on the outside of the subscriber's premises. The first and second units are linked by a base-band link (5, 15).

Apparatus for radio local loop system

A code-division multiple-access (CDMA) net can be used for efficiently carrying various types of traffic having different requirements, such as voice traffic and ISDN traffic. When a station requests a channel, the controller determines the quality level required by that station and calculates the appropriate power level for that station on the basis of the required quality level. At the same time it recalculates the power levels for the stations already having operative channels.

Operation of a CDMA net

Apparatus for detecting the presence of an ink on a substrate comprises a number of LEDs (1) for irradiating the substrate (2) with radiation at at least two different wavelengths, at least one of the wavelengths being chosen to correspond to an absorption or relectance wavelength of the ink to be detected. A sequence generator (5) modulates the radiation at each wavelength in a respective, different manner. A radiation sensor (3) senses radiation emitted by the substrate (2). A correlator (7,8) correlates samples of the sensed radiation from the radiation sensor (3) with signals each of which is modulated by a respective one of the modulations applied to the radiation, to generate correlation signals. A monitor (9) monitors the correlation signals in order to detect the presence of the said ink.

Method and apparatus for detecting inks

A monitoring system, particularly for use with document sorting apparatus, comprises a sensor assembly including a sensor for sensing a respective characteristic of an article and for generating a corresponding first output signal, and a detector controller for applying at least one of a predetermined set of algorithms to the first output signal from the sensor, in conjunction with data supplied to the detector controller, to generate one or more second output signals. A detector processor common to each of the sensor assemblies supplies the data and algorithm selection information to the detector controllers to control which of the set of algorithms is applied by the detector controller and to generate in response to the or each second output signal and reference data a third output signal representative of the characteristic of the article being monitored.
