An energy storage apparatus can comprise a battery enclosed within a housing and an ultracapacitor directly electrically coupled with the battery via one or more high voltage lines. The ultracapacitor can form a single integrated unit with the battery within the housing. The ultracapacitor can have a voltage capacity at least as large as the battery. The ultracapacitor can provide energy to the battery via the one or more high voltage lines to charge the battery. The ultracapacitor can have a greater power density and a smaller energy density than the battery. The ultracapacitor can removably electrically couple with a 110V or 220V outlet to receive energy originating from a utility grid. The battery can receive energy from the ultracapacitor when a voltage of the battery is below a threshold and can resist receiving energy from the ultracapacitor when the voltage of the battery is above a threshold.

Energy management system and methods

A computer system can remotely manage a vehicle's operational settings. The computer system can cause operational settings data to be downloaded to a vehicle to control one or more operations of the vehicle. The computer system can generate download event information indicating the operational settings data downloaded to the vehicle and a user associated with the vehicle. The computer system can access a pricing structure associated with operational settings. The computer system can charge the user based on the pricing structure and the download event information.

Managing vehicles over a wireless network

A hypercapacitor energy storage system or device facilitates fast charging, stable energy retention, high energy to weight storage and the like. The hypercapacitor comprises an ultracapacitor in electrical connection with an energy retainer which may comprise a battery, a battery field, a standard capacitor and/or the like. The electrical connection between the ultracapacitor and energy retainer may stabilize the energy retention of the hypercapacitor and provide for long-term energy storage and prevent self-discharge. The hypercapacitor may be electrically couplable to an energy source such as the utility grid via a low voltage outlet (e.g., 110V or 220V) or other charging system and may undergo fast charging. The hypercapacitor may be electrically couplable to and/or integrated with various systems or devices requiring energy storage and/or usage and may provide energy thereto.

Hypercapacitor apparatus for storing and providing energy

This application is directed to an apparatus for providing electrical charge to a vehicle. The apparatus comprises a driven mass, a generator, a charger, a hardware controller, and a communication circuit. The driven mass rotates in response to a kinetic energy of the vehicle and is coupled to a shaft such that rotation of the driven mass causes the shaft to rotate. The driven mass exists in one of (1) an extended position and (2) a retracted position. The generator generates an electrical output based on a mechanical input coupled to the shaft such that rotation of the shaft causes the mechanical input to rotate. The charger is electrically coupled to the generator and: receives the electrical output, generates a charge output based on the electrical output, and conveys the charge output to the vehicle. The controller controls whether the driven mass is in the extended position or the retracted position in response to a signal received from the communication circuit.

Methods, systems and apparatus for powering a vehicle

This application is directed to an apparatus for providing electrical charge to a vehicle. The apparatus can comprise a driven mass, a generator, a capacitor storage device, and a battery storage device. The driven mass can rotate in response to a kinetic energy of the vehicle and is coupled to a shaft such that rotation of the driven mass causes the shaft to rotate. The generator can generate an electrical output based on a mechanical input coupled to the shaft such that rotation of the shaft causes the mechanical input to rotate. The capacitor storage device can receive at least a portion of the electrical output from the generator. The capacitor storage device can store at least the portion of the electrical output. The capacitor storage device can convey at least the portion of the electrical output received from the generator to the battery storage device.

A system for managing a vehicle's energy can comprise an energy generation system, one or more energy storage devices, and a hardware controller. The energy generation system can generate energy to provide to the one or more energy storages devices and/or to a motor of the vehicle. The hardware controller can selectively electrically couple the one or more energy storage devices to the energy generation system based on one or more conditions. The hardware controller can control an electrical coupling between the one or more energy storage devices based on charge levels or an energy demand of the motor.

Methods and apparatus for powering a vehicle

The disclosure is directed to methods and systems for provisioning mobile electric vehicles with various operational settings data transmitted over the air. A vehicle or its components may operate according to operational settings corresponding to operational settings data included in the vehicle components. A server that is remote to the vehicle may comprise operational settings data and may transmit operational settings data to the vehicle. The server may transmit operational settings data automatically, such as on a periodic basis, in response to a request, such as from a user or from a vehicle component or anytime new or updated operational settings data are available for the vehicle or its components.

Systems and methods for managing a vehicle's energy via a wireless network

A system may generate energy in response to a movement of a vehicle. The system may include an energy recovery mechanism, a generator, an energy storage, and a motor. The energy recovery mechanism may include one or more rollers configured to rotate in response to a rotation of a drive shaft of the vehicle. The generator may be rotatably coupled to the roller and may be configured to generate an electrical output in response to a rotation of the roller. The energy storage may be electrically coupled with the generator and may be configured to receive a portion of the electrical output to store as energy. The motor may be electrically coupled with the energy storage and may be configured to receive a portion of the energy.

Vehicle energy generation system

This application is directed to methods and systems for providing electrical charge to a vehicle. The system can include a generator configured to generate an electrical output based on a mechanical input responsive to a rotation of a driven mass. The system can include an ultracapacitor module configured to receive energy from the generator. The system can include an energy retainer configured to receive energy from the ultracapacitor module or from the generator. The system can include a traction motor configured to receive energy from the energy retainer or from the ultracapacitor module.

A control system can control a vehicle charging system and can comprise an interactive user interface and hardware computer processors configured to execute program instructions. The interactive user interface can receive a user input relating to charging the vehicle and can display information relating to an operation of the vehicle charging system or a charge sequence of the vehicle. The control system can access vehicle data relating to charging the vehicle, can generate charging instructions to control the operation of the vehicle charging system based on at least the vehicle data and the user input, and can communicate the charging instructions to the vehicle charging system.

Electric vehicle charging station

An energy system can store and provide energy to power a vehicle. The energy system can comprise a generator configured to generate an electrical output, a capacitor configured to receive the electrical output from the generator and store the electrical output as a capacitor energy, a battery configured to receive the capacitor energy from the capacitor, a diode electrically positioned between the capacitor and the battery and configured to convey the capacitor energy from the capacitor to the battery, and a roller configured to contact a wheel of the vehicle and to rotate about an axis in response to a rotation of the wheel to cause the generator to generate the electrical output.

Power generation from vehicle wheel rotation

An energy storage device container can suppress fires and can comprise a compartment configured to receive an energy storage device and a chamber configured to hold a fire suppressive agent, the chamber being positioned above the compartment. A barrier can be positioned between the compartment and the chamber and can physically separate the fire suppressive agent from the energy storage device to inhibit the fire suppressive agent from entering the compartment when the barrier is in a first physical state. The barrier can change from the first physical state to a second physical state in response to thermal energy having a threshold temperature to allow the fire suppressive agent to enter the compartment to contact the energy storage device.

Fire suppression for energy storage devices

The disclosure is directed to an apparatus or a system for generating energy in response to a vehicle wheel rotation. The apparatus or the system may include a roller configured to be positioned in substantial physical contact within a groove of a wheel of the vehicle. The roller may be configured to rotate in response to a rotation of the wheel. The apparatus or the system may further include a flexible arm rotatably couplable to the roller such that rotation of the roller causes the flexible arm to rotate. The flexible arm may be configured to exert a downward force on the roller to increase the friction between the roller and the groove of the wheel. The apparatus or the system may further include a first generator operably coupled to the flexible arm and configured to generate an electrical output based on the rotation of the flexible arm shaft and convey the electrical output to an energy storage device or vehicle motor.

The disclosure is directed to methods and systems for an energy storage system having a capacitor module configured to store energy as an electric field of the capacitor module, the capacitor module including a capacitor terminal, and a battery configured to store energy as a chemical form of the battery, the battery including a battery terminal, and the battery terminal including a cavity. The cavity of the battery terminal is configured to receive a portion of the capacitor terminal to mechanically couple the capacitor module to the battery and to electrically couple the capacitor module to the battery. The electrical coupling allows for energy to flow from the capacitor module to the battery via the terminal to provide voltage to the battery.

Matable energy storage devices

An energy management system can comprise a capacitor device, a first diode electrically coupled with the capacitor device and configured to bias an energy flow toward the capacitor device, a battery device having a greater energy density and a smaller power density than the capacitor device, the battery device configured to receive the capacitor energy from the capacitor device to store as battery energy, and a second diode electrically coupled with the capacitor device and the battery device. The second diode can convey capacitor energy from the capacitor device to the battery device and inhibit battery energy from passing from the battery device to the capacitor device. An electrical load electrically coupled with the battery device can receive battery energy from the battery device.
