A radar system including a narrowband radar receiver configured to receive pulsed radar return signals and a wideband receiver configured for receiving wideband signals. A noise data processor is configured to identify impulse noises by analyzing wideband signals received by the wideband receiver and a radar processor is configured to cancel the identified impulse noises from pulse signals received by the radar receiver. The wideband impulse noises utilized to cancel noise from the pulse signals corresponds to the same time period sweep of detection as that of the pulse signals.

Impulse noise detection and removal for radar and communication systems

A retrodiction tracker and related techniques and system are described. The technique extends the track range of an inbound target, initially detected with a low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) (or initially detected with signals having a low probability of detection) to that of an outbound target where the low SNR detection is being associated with a confirmed, established, track. Retrodiction and backward propagation are being combined with historical plot-to-track association to significantly enhance the tracking capability of a radar.

Retrodiction tracking system and related techniques

A high frequency surface wave radar (HFSWR) system with improved performance. Two or more transmitters including separate transmitting antennas () are used to improve the performance of the HFSWR over the performance of a comparable system with a single transmitter. In one embodiment, two transmitters are used, and configured to transmit pulses alternately, with a time interval of at least a round-trip travel time corresponding to a maximum target range between any pair of transmitted pulses. A physical receiving antenna array () includes a plurality of receiving antenna elements (), and is connected to receiver circuitry configured to distinguish returns corresponding to pulses emitted by the different transmitters. The returns are concatenated in the receiver circuitry to achieve improved resolution.

Virtual antenna extension for sampled aperture arrays

A situational awareness personal service (SAPS) receives data records from a wide variety of data sources and provides real-time, tailored, situational awareness (SA) information to subscribers. The SA information, which can include course of action recommendations and threat assessments, can be made available and affordable to the general public. Subscribers may view the SA information using commercial off the shelf (COTS) devices, such as laptop computers, smartphones, and existing onboard integrated displays. In one aspect, transportation platforms can provide local observation data, such as radar tracking data, to the SA personal service in exchange for tailored SA information.

Situational awareness personal service

Methods and apparatus for combining radar signals of a two-dimensional primary radar covering a surveillance area and a passive adjunct radar to provide three-dimensional data for targets and weather. In exemplary embodiments, high beam and low beam data from the primary radar and elevation data from the adjunct radar can be used to mitigate interference from clutter, such as wind farms.

Methods and apparatus for 3D radar data from 2D primary surveillance radar and passive adjunct radar

A system and method for exchanging information between aircraft (). Sensors on a first aircraft () provide data about the first aircraft's environment, including hazards such as turbulence, icing, lightning, or birds. The system transmits the data to receiving systems in other aircraft (), which display the data, to warn the pilots flying the other aircraft of potential hazards. The pilot of the first aircraft may supplement the information with visual observations, about birds or unmanned aerial vehicles, for example. In one embodiment, the information is transmitted from aircraft to aircraft over a data link using ADS-B. In another embodiment, a first aircraft may transmit data to a second aircraft, which may relay, or re-transmit, the data to a third aircraft.

System and method for social networking of aircraft for information exchange

Various embodiments are described herein for a detector and method that perform various types of CFAR detection on radar data including knowledge-aided CFAR detection, hybrid-CFAR detection and simplified censored CFAR detection. Knowledge about the type of local environment of a Cell Under Test and the proximity of the Cell Under Test to various types of noise can be used to select particular types of CFAR detection methods or combinations thereof. In other instances, certain parameters of a CFAR detection method can be adapted based on this knowledge.

In one aspect, a method to identify and remove a false detection includes receiving a detection from a constant false alarm rate (CFAR) processor, performing a first similarity measure on adjacent coherent integration time values (CITs) corresponding to the detection, performing a second similarity measure on neighbor CITs corresponding to the detection, determining if at least one of the first or second similarity measure is below a threshold and discarding the detection if at least one of the first or second similarity measures is below the threshold.

Identification and removal of a false detection in a radar system

A system for extending maritime domain awareness of participating vessels. The system includes a domain extension device installed on each of the vessels, the domain extension devices including at least one processor configured to receive own-ship radar track data from a navigational radar indicative of detectable targets located within a detection range of the radar, receive own-ship location values from a positioning device indicative of a geographical location of the vessel when the radar track data is generated, interface with a transceiver to receive other-ship radar track data and associated other-ship location values from one or more other participating vessels within a communication range of other-ship AIS transceivers, generate a common operating picture based upon the own-ship radar track data, own-ship location value, other-ship radar track data and other-ship location values.

Systems and methods for extending maritime domain awareness by sharing radar tracks between vessels

A system and corresponding method for the concurrent operation of multiple radar systems on a common frequency and in the same geographical area includes a waveform generator that specifies certain operating parameters for the transmitted radar pulses. In a first instance, the carrier frequency can include an offset for each radar system. In a second instance, complementary codes can be used for the radar pulses such that each radar system operates with a unique code for substantially reducing the cross-talk between the radar systems. In another instance, both carrier frequency offset and complementary coded waveforms can be used to increase the number of radar systems that operate concurrently. Carrier frequency offset can also be used to combat range-wrap by using different carrier frequencies for adjacent radar pulses.
