The present invention relates to a halogen containing polymer compound containing a modified zeolite stabilizer. The modified zeolite stabilizer has a small particle diameter, narrow particle size distribution and less than 10 weight percent water. The modified zeolite stabilizer is formed by shock annealing, coating or a combination of the two methods.

The present invention relates to zeolites and the process for forming such zeolites. In addition, the instant invention relates to modified zeolites having a reduced water content while retaining the reactivity toward the acid species. The reduction in the water content is achieved by shock annealing or coating. The modified zeolite is useful as a stabilizer for halogen containing polymers.

Modified zeolites and methods of making thereof

The service life of fiber-reinforced polyimide composites in a high temperature oxidative environment is extended by coating with a polyimide coating precursor solution that is synthesized by reacting an aromatic dianhydride with an aromatic diamine in a non-reactive solvent. The reactive solution is heated to a temperature sufficent to reduce its viscosity prior to its use as a coating. Preferably, a mixture of meta-phenylenediamine and para-phenylenediamine is reacted with biphenyldianhydride in n-methyl pyrrolidinone solvent and thereafter heated to between about 50.degree. C. (122.degree. F.) and 150.degree. C. (302.degree. F.) under nitrogen while stirring for a time sufficient to obtain a polyamic acid polyimide precursor coating solution having a Brookfield viscosity of from about 500 to about 5000 cP and a solids content of from about 5 to about 35 weight percent.

Protective coatings for polyimide composites

Polyoxometalates are provided which are highly soluble in organic solvents, including monomer mixtures utilized in reaction injection molding. High solubility is obtained by organic moieties incorporated in the cation and anion of compounds having the formula [R.sup.1.sub.m ER.sup.2.sub.m' ].sub.n M.sub.x O.sub.y L.sub.z. These compounds provide improved solubility while maintaining catalyst activity within reaction injection molding formulations. A method is also provided for preparing these polyoxometalates within an aqueous acidic medium, wherein ligands are incorporated in the complex simultaneously with the formation of the polyoxometalate complex.

Ligated polyoxometalates and methods for their synthesis

Oxidation of fully dense rare earth magnets is reduced when a passivating agent such as an oxidation resistant composition or corrosion inhibitor or combinations thereof, is coated thereon. The oxidation resistant composition is a binary or a ternary composition made from (a) at least one amino containing silane compound such as an aminosilane or a polyaminosilane, or (b) at least one epoxy resin, or (c) an epoxy silane compound, or all three such compounds. The oxidation resistant composition, the corrosion inhibitor, or combinations thereof, passivate the surface of the fully dense rare earth magnets and generally form a highly concentrated coating on the surface thereof. Antidegradants are optionally utilized to improve the performance of the fully dense rare earth magnets with regard to improved oxidation resistant properties and generally include organic phosphorus compounds and/or alcohols. One or more layers of the passivating agent and/or one or more layers of the antidegradant are applied to the fully dense magnet which can be in the form of an end product, an article, or any element or component thereof, and which is desirably substantially free of a binder. Such protective fully dense magnets have excellent high temperature oxidation resistance, corrosion resistance, degradation resistance, and the like.

Passivated rare earth magnet or magnetic material compositions

Oxidation of particles of rare earth magnetic materials is greatly reduced when a passivating agent such as an oxidation resistant composition or corrosion inhibitor or combinations thereof, is coated thereon. The oxidation resistant composition is a binary or a ternary composition made from (a) at least one amino containing silane compound such as an aminosilane or a polyaminosilane, or (b) at least one epoxy resin, or (c) an epoxy silane compound, or all three such compounds. The oxidation resistant composition, the corrosion inhibitor, or combinations thereof, passivate the surface of the magnetic particles and generally form a highly concentrated coating on the surface thereof. Antidegradants are optionally utilized to improve the performance of the rare earth magnet composition with regard to improved oxidation resistant properties and generally include organic phosphorous compounds and/or alcohols. Various binders such as an elastomer, a thermoplastic, a thermoset, or a polymer generally formed by reaction based injection molding (RIM), act to adhere the various particles together and form an oxidation resistant rare earth magnet composition. Products can be made by various polymer processing techniques such as extrusion, calendering, injection molding, compression molding, and the like. The passivated rare earth magnetic materials of the present invention have excellent high temperature (e.g. 150.degree. C.) oxidation resistance, and excellent corrosion resistance.

An oxidation of rare earth magnetic materials and powders thereof are greatly reduced when coated with a binary or a ternary composition made from (a) at least one amino containing silane compound such as an aminosilane or a polyaminosilane, (b) at least one epoxy resin or (c) an epoxysilane compound. The composition is utilized to coat rare earth magnets or magnet materials or in association with a binder to form a matrix substantially encapsulating the same.

Oxidation resistant compositions for use with rare earth magnets

Oxidation of rare earth magnetic materials and powders thereof are greatly reduced when coated with a binary or a ternary composition made from (a) at least one amino containing silane compound such as an aminosilane or a polyaminosilane, or (b) at least one epoxy resin, or (c) an epoxy silane compound. The composition is utilized to coat rare earth magnet or magnet materials or in association with a binder to form a matrix substantially encapsulating the same.

Corrosion of ferrous metal and aluminum surfaces, in particular, is inhibited by a layer of an organic-metallic complex of a polyamine with a (i) metal oxide, or (ii) metallate ion, or (iii) water-soluble metallate salt, in aqueous systems having a pH greater than about 7. The polyamine contains at least four (4) amine groups, two of which are secondary amine groups. The effect of the N atoms stretched over the length of the polyamine produces a 'caging effect'0 which immobilizes the oxide, or metallate ions, thus forming the protective layer. The organic-metallic complex deposited on the metal's surface forms the 'amine-metallic' layer which may be either an 'amine-metal oxide complex' which is a coordination complex, or, an 'amine-metallate complex'. The amine-metallate complex may be either an ionic complex of 'amine.metallate ions', or, a mixture of the polyamine and metallate salt which mixture is not a complex, but in solution, behaves like one, and is therefore referred to as an admixture complex of an 'amine+metallate salt'. The organic-metallic complex may be present in a concentration from about 10 ppm to about 5% by wt in neutral or basic aqueous solution. In the lower range of this conc. up to about 2000 ppm, the complex is useful in aqueous process streams; in the higher range, from 2000 ppm to 5%, for a rinse for phosphated metal parts, in lieu of a conventional chromate rinse.
