A control switch () is provided to facilitate a primary user interface for a control top surface () of a non-orthogonal control top () of a portable communication device (). The control switch () comprises a thumb button actuator (), a rotary lever () having a lever arm () extending therefrom, a transfer arm () coupled between the thumb button actuator and the lever arm of the rotary lever, and an electrical rotary switch () with a switch shaft () providing a primary axis of orthogonal rotation. Actuation of the thumb button actuator () results in linear, non-orthogonal motion of the transfer arm () being translated into rotary motion of the switch shaft () about the primary axis of orthogonal rotation ().

Radio control for a portable communication device

A connector assembly for connecting a battery to different electrical components within an electrical device includes a housing, and a plurality of sheet metal contacts coupled to and extending through the housing. The plurality of sheet metal contacts define a plurality of battery contact regions and a plurality of internal contact regions spaced form the plurality of battery contact regions. The plurality of internal contact regions physically contact the plurality of different electrical components. A first one of the plurality of internal contact regions is offset from a second one of the plurality of internal contact regions in a different spatial plane than a spatial plane of the second one of the plurality of internal contact regions.

The carrier sealing surface engages a battery seal while the battery is positioned in the battery carrier. The wiper is positioned on a support surface of a battery receptacle in the body. The wiper is aligned with battery contacts of the battery. The wiper wipes the electrical contacts when the battery is inserted into the battery receptacle.

A virtual partner or the like determines that an incident has escalated from a first severity level to a second severity level. The virtual partner determines a quantity of resources needed to deescalate the incident to the first severity level. A sound illusion profile is generated to replicate a sound associated with the quantity of resources. A signal is sent to one or more speaker devices in a region surrounding the location of the incident to generate an output sound based on the sound illusion profile.

An improved venting and sealing assembly for a portable communication device is provided. The venting and sealing assembly is formed of a housing enclosure having a walled aperture with a bottom surface and an offset through-hole passing therethrough. A flexible substrate having a vent hole is coupled to the housing enclosure across the walled aperture such that the vent hole is offset from the offset through-hole. A breathable membrane is coupled across the vent hole of the flexible substrate. A rigid plate having an opening is coupled to the breathable membrane, the opening of the rigid plate being aligned with the vent hole of the flexible substrate. A closed-loop sealing rib is formed around the vent hole of the flexible substrate and/or upon the bottom surface of the walled aperture of the housing enclosure. The assembly provides a vent path and a self-sealing enclosure.

Apparatus and method for venting and sealing a portable communication device

A rotary control () provides improved running-torque through a running-torque stack up assembly (). The running-torque stack up assembly () may be implemented in a modular approach () independent of a shaft () and switch housing, or may be implemented to incorporate the shaft () and switch housing. A rotary control assembly () for a handheld two-way radio () provides improved tactile feedback in the form of clicks, even during gloved usage. Assembly () includes a housing having a large control knob (), a rotary switch control () having a shaft (), a shaft extender () having a toothed gear element (), and a ball plunger (). As the control knob () is rotated, the shaft extender (), toothed gear element () and shaft (), all turn in cooperation. The toothed gear element () is loaded by the ball plunger thereby generating a clicking tactile feedback in response to the control knob () being rotated. A large control knob (), suitable for a ruggedized environment, can thus be used in conjunction with a small rotary switch control () for improved tactile feedback while maximizing internal space efficiency.

A component assembly () used for picking and placing the component assembly includes a component (-) having a geometry incapable of being picked and placed or having a geometry that is unstable when placed through a reflow oven. The assembly includes a support member such as a detachable clip () having a pick and placeable surface such as a top flat surface (). The clip attaches to the component to modify a center of gravity to form a stable component assembly once attached to the support member. The component assembly can further include conductive elements (such as a center conductor () of a coaxial cable () and at least one ground conductor ()) used for registration with apertures or other surface locations on a substrate ().

A push-button assembly for a handheld radio () is provided which permits off-axis actuation by a gloved user amongst a crowded radio control environment. The push-button () includes first and second guide posts () of different length, one guide post also serving as a switch actuator. An alignment guide () receives the two guide posts (). The alignment guide () with the first and second guide posts () are coupled within a recessed portion () of a housing () to provide tactile feedback, even during gloved usage. The alignment guide () may further provide a light guide () which can operate as a third guide post for the radio ().

A mounting assembly () for coupling to a circuit board () is provided. The mounting assembly can include a radio frequency (RF) connector () for receiving an antenna, a flexible cable () connected to the RF connector, and an alignment wall () supporting the flexible cable and providing a guide channel () to flexibly mount the RF connector to a mechanical housing (). The alignment wall can limit the movement of the RF connector to within a tolerance to alleviate a solder stress on the circuit board.
