The sustenance of life is driven by recognition of and access to energy sources. This process has remained unchanged over billions of years, guiding cellular nutrition through molecular recognition, akin to the food pyramid. At the atomic or nanoscale, chemotaxis enables organisms to identify ingestible matter and is driven by their need for fuel, rather than from the sustenance itself. Chemotaxis, one of nature's most potent yet invisible organic forces, operates independently of molecular charge dynamics to locate and identify microscopic sustenance. Infectious organisms, such as pathogenic microbes and parasites, depend on chemotactic pathways to locate nutrition across all scales. This invention leverages this phenomenon by 'baiting' these pathways with nutritive matter that encapsulates biocidal agents that are harmless to humans but lethal to infectious organisms once ingested. These nutritive biocidal agents could be employed as topical, oral, injectable, or aerosolized formulations, as well as hydrogel or slow-release implants.

This invention proposes a multifunctional topical composition that integrates halogen-functionalized fullerenes (halo-fullerenes and halo-endofullerenes) and metallic nanoparticles (NPs) to provide comprehensive skin protection and sanitizing, cosmetic enhancement and in some embodiments, treatment for various conditions. Leveraging the atomic scale and physical characteristics of halogenated fullerenes for deeper tissue penetration, the composition can provide antioxidant, antimicrobial, and UV protective benefits to foster cellular integrity, proliferation, and differentiation as healthy tissue. The proposed formulation can penetrate the stratum corneum and diffuse into underlying skin layers due to atomic-scale NPs that can readily deliver active ingredients through the skin via the pores of sweat glands; the lipid matrix of the stratum corneum; and hair follicles, sebaceous glands, and pilosebaceous pores. This composition uses stable inorganic antibacterial agents with a robust safety profile. Furthermore, it can provide UV protection from harmful radiation. The formulation comprises active ingredients that are specific, safe, stable and effective—and can be produced economically, making it suitable for a broad range of skin protection, sanitizing, enhancement and therapeutic products that promote skin health and wellbeing.

Broad-spectrum antimicrobial, biocompatible and preservative-free functionalized fullerenes ophthalmic solution with reactive oxygen species scavenging and advanced targeting, penetration, and hydration

The gut-brain axis, neurobiology and neurotransmission are physiologic systems with known pathways, yet they are rarely leveraged for wellness, notwithstanding extensive literature regarding healthy diets and nutrition. Gastrointestinal (GI) evolution has equipped humans with exceptional plasticity for food abundance or scarcity, while maintaining homeostasis by producing essential neurotransmitters that drive fundamental behaviors, from seeking nourishment to engaging in routine tasks of life. The advent of cheap, abundant, and highly processed foods in the last century, however, has upended the very systems that evolved for survival with a debilitating propensity for obesity in abundance&#x2014;and malnourishment where access may be limited to a scarce supply of such processed foods, or none at all. Multi-angle radiographic imaging enables 3D visualization of internal surgical targets like solid-tumors, heart vessels, blocked glands or any bodily cavities like fallopian or Eustachian tubes for diagnostics and surgery planning. Those images are dimensionally precise and easily replicated as life-forms with 3D printing for exact modeling. The 'negative' aspects of the images are the diseased tissues requiring excision, as in a solid-tumor example. Needle biopsies are routine and can be radiographically guided. Similarly, guided needle delivery of a magnetic surgical fluid containing fullerenes into a target site, such as a solid tumor is less invasive than laparoscopic techniques. Introducing an external magnetic field force can then be used to propel, rotate and maneuver fullerenes into cellular matter or into tissue. Without such external force from the external magnetic field, the suspension of nanoparticles remains harmless due to their atomic scale, inertia and intrinsic repulsion from contact with nearby matter. Notably, fullerenes are hydrophobic and can move freely in biologic space (or interstitially) including amongst water molecules without contact. However, if energized and propelled by a controlled external magnetic source, the nanoparticle could readily penetrate cells, tissues, bone, or biological material. In addition to magnetic launching of the nanoparticles, rotation of the fullerene particles would create millions of nanoscale abrasive structures that can grind down larger structures like tissues, organs, or bones. By example, oscillating or reciprocal computer-controlled magnetic forces in radiographically defined space would activate fullerenes, inducing momentum and rotation that can exenterate a tumor, while chemically cauterizing small feeding vessels for hemostatic control and absent any damage to nearby normal, non-target matter. Essentially, biological material targeted with magnetically manipulated fullerenes could be ablated with a microscopic 'sharpness' unattainable with conventional instrumentation. Magnetic forces are mathematically articulated and understood in highly precise terms, wherein objects subject to magnetic energy are controllable regarding mass, force and velocity. After completion of the surgical procedure, the magnetic fullerene fluid can be aggregated and removed along with flushing of attendant debris with a syringe or similar instrument.

The present invention pertains to quantum-scale biocidal particles and chemical reactions that disrupt and eviscerate microbial matter by combining aqueous and dry components. As halo-fullerene activation requires volatile excitation to mix, contact and collide so as to rupture microbial matter, atomic scale chemical reactions impart the requisite movement of engineered halo-fullerenes to destroy bacterial, fungal and viral matter upon contact. The present invention includes two primary mechanisms: an excitation chemistry and biocidal, hydrophobic halo-fullerenes. Upon aqueous exposure, the dry composition initiates a chemical reaction that activates biocidal halo-fullerenes to disrupt biologic surfaces in topical applications. The object of the present invention is a shelf stable, pre-packaged wiping material or dry packet for rehydration with broad spectrum antimicrobial activity. In one example, a matrix or wipe material would be comprised of densely packed and highly concentrated halo-fullerenes and a chemical reaction stimulant. When activated upon aqueous exposure, it would relax water molecules, alter hydrogen binding, and disrupt adhesion and cohesion forces that characterize surface tensions. These dynamics would then isolate sebaceous substances and free oxygen radicals, along with outgassing of carbon dioxide. The chemical reaction stimulant thus transfers energy and hyperactivates otherwise inert halo-fullerenes to form a biocidal composition. Broader utilities range from topical cleansing for personal hygiene, as well as various clinical and surgical procedures, as surgical and prophylactic lavage and rinse solutions, and enteral formulations as a hypertonic renal flush combined with short-acting diuresis. The halo-fullerene and hypertonic renal flush would cause osmotic cellular outflow, mitigate cellular microbial uptake and initial seroconversion and bloodborne events, while a botanical diuretic agent would facilitate systemic prophylaxis or treatment of UTIs.

Risk mitigation of infectious disease transmission from incidental and intimate contact using atomic scale molecular disruption and biocidal halo-fullerenes delivered via topical, flushing and enteral mechanisms

Tissue and organ transplantation success is chiefly dependent on the harvest and preservation techniques employed. Yield and quality enhancements are needed, because qualified patient demand far outpaces donors and ultimately, tissues and organs stored and transported so as to render them in acceptable condition for surgery. In the case of corneal transplants, tissue supplies help 1 out of 70 patients in need despite being among the most successful such procedures today. Transplant success has improved overall with enhanced storage and transport methods that have allowed for greater time and distances to reach patients in need, whether corneas, kidneys, hearts, lungs, livers or other tissues, limbs or cellular materials. While corneal tissues specifically benefit from oxygenation via direct air contact and normal tears in a healthy individual, once donated, the lack of corneal vascularization can uniquely accelerate the depletion of oxygen that occurs upon harvesting of all transplant materials. Directly infusing oxygen has had little impact, given partial pressure requirements, volatility and reactivity to many compounds, including self-affinity or agglomeration and bubbling. However, the hemocyanin, such as that of the horseshoe crab (), can deliver oxygen directly to transplant tissues, while free radical scavenging by pristine fullerenes can help maintain cellular integrity. Horseshoe crabs have successfully evolved by developing two immunological mechanisms, amoebocytes and less characterized antiviral and gram-positive bactericidal properties ascribed to other hemolymph constituents. The amoebocytes have a specific, ultrasensitive affinity to gram-negative bacteria and fungi; they engulf and consume these microbes in an enzymatic coagulation process. However, hemocyanin is extracellular and non-toxic to mammalian tissue, notwithstanding its microbiocidal properties. As such, the viral-scale peptides appear to intracellularly invade the pathogens and disrupt replication without conferring a caustic or toxic effect on non-pathogenic tissue. Hence, hemocyanin appears to be non-immunogenic and thus applicable as a carrier molecule for some human therapeutics (e.g., hemocyanin from Keyhole Limpet snails). The present invention relates in the initial embodiment to the use of horseshoe crab hemocyanin and functionalized carbon nanostructures, halogenated fullerenes, pristine fullerenes and fullerene derivatives as an antimicrobial and antioxidant enrichment composition that is added to tissue storage and preservation media as a potent, broad-spectrum antimicrobial and tissue preservation composition for safe and effective storage and transport. Notably, methods for horseshoe crab aquaculture husbandry have been developed to achieve sustainable hemocyanin supplies for hemolymph harvest and biomedical applications. With regard to unique needs and benefits for the transplantation of corneal tissue, the aim of this patent is development of an antioxidant and broad-spectrum microbicidal that is benign to endothelial and endothelium cells to preserve and maximize the viability of a pathogen-free specimen.

Innocuous sterilant using hemocyanin and functionalized fullerenes with broad-spectrum intracellular and interstitial microbiocidal and radical scavenging effects for packaged matter, biologics and organics including liquids, gases, tissue, organs, cells, and limbs with copper mediated oxygenation for viability and preservation

The present invention provides the methods and composition useful as a contraceptive by preventing motile sperm from reaching a mature ovum, thereby blocking fertilization and preventing pregnancy. The contraceptive is comprised of halogen functionalized fullerene nanoparticles (halo fullerenes) and chemotactic stimulants that act synergistically to divert, incapacitate and ultimately rupture spermatozoa to avert fertilization. When applied vaginally prior to coitus, the suspension is activated by exposure to spermatozoa upon insemination. Notably, non-spermatozoa cells are unaffected by the pH-neutral suspension; however, closer to the same scale, microbes are susceptible to its inherent biocidal properties. Synthetic, multifaceted halogenated, functionalized fullerenes engineered for microbicidal effects employing controlled contact for safe therapeutic and environmental utility

A plasma torch head adapted to cut longitudinal slots in tubes from the interior is disclosed. The plasma torch head includes an outer body made of reinforced fiberglass. An adhesive is used to affix fiberglass components of the torch head together to form a gas tight seal. As a cut is made, the outer body of the torch becomes charred. At the end of each cut the torch head is either replaced or rebuilt. Gas to support the plasma and electric power is supplied to the torch head via an electrically conductive tube concentric with the major axis of the torch head.
