A group feed is displayed for a selected group by a private social network service. The group feed displays only threads with unviewed content along with a user actuatable display element that allows the user to switch to a feed that displays all content for the group.

Content delivery control

A client device presents a resource to a user. In order to present the resource, the client device generates and renders one or more presentation strings. The client device generates a presentation string by identifying a template module that corresponds to an content resource object in a dataset downloaded by the client device. The client device then performs a template execution operation on the content resource object. The template module corresponding to the content resource object specifies the template execution operation.

Templates for displaying data

A fallback query mechanism that serves as a way to recover from query conditions (or criteria) that break due to excessively large result sets relative to a preset threshold. The fallback query mechanism detects when a query has failed to execute because the query requested more items from the database (or list) than allowed by the threshold, rewrites the query to examine no more than the threshold number of most recently created items that match one of the indexed filter criteria specified in a view, and then applies one or more of the other filter criteria. The mechanism then reruns the query and displays the results to the user.

Exploiting conditions to optimize expensive database queries

Embodiments are provided to maintain templates associated with a client. New and updated templates can be provided to the client and accessed by a user. In an embodiment, a system can be configured to automatically update locally stored templates with updated templates associated with a library. The updated templates can replace or be used to update the locally stored templates and be used by an application user. In one embodiment, a client can be configured to automatically initiate an update process to retrieve and/or receive new and updated templates from an associated document library. The update process can also be used to provide additional information associated with a template, such as metadata describing aspects of an associated template.

A placeholder control object is positioned on a page of a web site hosted by a content management server (CMS). The CMS stores the page with the placeholder control object therein and serves same to a requestor thereof. In a presentation mode, the page and the placeholder control object therein are served by the CMS to a requesting viewer of the page at a browser thereof. In such presentation mode, the placeholder control object displays associated content to the viewer within the browser thereof. In an authoring mode, the page and the placeholder control object therein are served by the CMS to a requesting designer of the page at a browser thereof. In such authoring mode, the placeholder control object allows editing of the associated content by the designer within the browser thereof and saving the edited content to the CMS.
