An animal treat dispensing and training device formed of a resilient material and defining a closed end and an elliptically shaped, slightly convex, dispensing end having an arcuate slot extending about the lower periphery thereof such that upon squeezing the dispenser adjacent its dispensing end, the slot is caused to open allowing one or more treats to be readily dispensed therefrom. Upon releasing the pressure on the dispenser, it returns to its prior disposition, closing and sealing the slot to again secure the remaining treats within the dispenser. A bell is attached to the device for attracting the attention of the animal to be trained whereby the user can shake the dispenser to alert the animal to a command and dispense the treat with the simple squeezing motion of the same hand to effect patterned response learning.

A vibrating sand sifting toy that has a selectively activated vibrating mechanism mounted in a portion of the toy for causing oscillatory vibration of a surface portion of the toy. Two embodiments are in the form of a scoop with a handle. The bottom of the scoop portion is provided with openings in a predetermined pattern and size for discharging sand, dirt or other particulate material in a predetermined pattern for the education and entertainment of a child operating the vibrating toy. In one of those two embodiments the scoop portion is removable and replaceable with other scoop portions having different predetermined patterns of openings. In the other of those two embodiments the bottom of the scoop portion has an open frame for removably receiving a template having a predetermined pattern of openings for discharging sand and various templates with different predetermined patterns may be used. A third embodiment is in the form of a bowl-shaped hopper with removable and replaceable templates with the patterns of openings and a vibrator in the body.

A cat litter scoop with a battery powered vibrator carried in the scoop handle which is actuated by a thumb operated switch. Upon actuation, the vibrator imparts a high speed oscillatory movement to the scoop about the longitudinal axis of the handle to accelerate the manual steps of insertion, pushing, lifting and sifting associated with the scooping motion employed with a standard cat litter scoop. The scoop portion of the cat litter scoop is provided with a pair of spaced transversely extending rows of elongated longitudinal slots so as to define a solid web portion extending between the rows of slots and transversing the scoop to enhance the structural integrity of the scoop portion of the litter scoop.

A water and drinking device for pets which includes a water container, a flexible valve assembly removably secured to the outlet end of the container and a lapping pan. The water container is pivotally secured to the lapping pan by the valve assembly thereon such that the water container can be moved from a folded storage position wherein the container is partially encased within the pan to a serving position wherein the container is disposed in an inverted inclination above the pan. The valve assembly comprises a flexible valve member, an actuating arm projecting from the valve member and a water outlet slit disposed in a concave end wall of the valve member which is aligned perpendicularly with respect to the actuating arm. When the water container is moved to the serving position, the actuating arm on the valve member abuts the stop member in the lapping pan and flexes the valve member so as to slightly open the water outlet slit so as to allow air flow therethrough and provide pressure equalization within the container. The slit is sized so as to cooperate with the atmospheric pressure and surface tension of the water within the container interiorly of the slit so as to prevent water flow therethrough when the valve member is both in a flexed and unflexed disposition. Upon squeezing the container, water is forced from the container through the slit and into the lapping pan for consumption by the pet. Cessation of the squeezing action, however, causes a cessation of the water flow thereby providing a precise metering of the flow into the lapping pan and preventing leakage.

Cat litter box

A chew toy for dogs formed of a length of composite rope having an inner core defined by one or more strands of twisted threads of natural plant or synthetic fibers such as sisal or nylon, and a soft outer shell defined by a plurality of strands of soft pliable cotton threads which are twisted about the inner core. The inner core is less water absorbent that the outer shell to promote drying of toy when wetted with the dog's saliva to inhibit bacteria growth in the toy. In the preferred configuration of the chew toy, the core fibers are frangible and a pair of knots are formed in the composite rope proximate the extended ends thereof to prevent the rope from unraveling and securing the core within the cotton shell. The resultant outer cotton shell provides a cleaning of the dog's teeth and a gentle massaging of its gums when chewed, while the frangible core in addition inhibiting bacteria growth provides the toy with a crunchy sound and texture and promotes a collapsing of the shell about the core to enhance the ability of the dog to pass the toy if ingested after chewing.

A hinge of single piece construction particularly adapted for providing a removable pivotal attachment for a raised cover on a cat litter box wherein the rearward ends of the litter container and cover are each provided with vertical slots positioned such that upon the cover being disposed on the container in a closed position the slots on the cover are disposed adjacently above and in axial alignment with the slots on the litter container. The hinge defines a curvilinear depending tab portion adapted to extend through one of the aligned pairs of slots against a portion of the litter box and be removably retained in a snug fitment within the slot in the litter container. The tab portion of the hinge member merges into a curvilinear guide portion extending upwardly and rearwardly from the tab portion which merges into a cover support portion. Upon the tab portions of a pair of hinges being extended through the aligned vertical slots and the forward end of the cover being raised from the container, the cover is caused to pivot rearwardly on the container by the curvilinear guide portions of the hinges until a raised rear wall portion of the cover abuts the cover support portions of the hinges causing the tab position of the hinges to bear against the litter box whereupon the cover rests on the support portions of the hinges in a fully open position without the need for additional support while providing unobstructed access to the litter container.

A cat litter box assembly comprises a rectangular litter box tray, an upstanding cover removably securable on the walls of the tray so as to extend over and about a portion of the tray rearwardly of the front wall thereof, and a removable hood pivotally mountable on the cover between an extended position and a retracted position. The hood defines an elongated forward edge portion which, when the hood is in the extended position is disposed forwardly of and above the front wall of the tray and cooperates therewith to define an elongated cat entry area therebetween extending substantially the length of the front wall of the litter tray. The front and rear litter tray walls are longer than the side walls, maximizing the width of the cat entry area for the size of the tray. In the retracted position the hood is disposed interiorally of the cover and in substantial juxtaposition therewith so as to provide unobstructed access to the interior of the litter box tray for viewing and litter cleaning. A filter element is mounted in the upper end of the cover. The cover and the hood are provided with mating sealing members which are in sealing engagement when the hood is in its extended position, preventing odors from escaping therebetween. Air deflectors are defined by the hood adjacent the ends of the cat entry area to prevent cross drafts from drawing odors outwardly therethrough and rendering the assembly virtually odor free.
