Apparatus providing at least one subscriber with subscriber service signals, telephone line signals and/or broadband signals, from one of at least two providers of such signals, including a connector for terminating at least one subscriber premises line, connectors for terminating incoming service lines from at least two providers of subscriber service signals and for permitting either provider of subscriber service signals to connect its incoming service line to the subscriber premises line and for permitting either provider to disconnect from the subscriber premises line the incoming service line of the other provider previously connected to the subscriber premises line and thereafter connect its incoming service line to the subscriber premises line.

Apparatus for providing a plurality of providers of subscriber service signals with easy access to at least one subscriber premises line

A network interface device (NID) including a plurality of cavities beneath the base surface of the NID. Each cavity extends downwardly between the base surface of the NID and the bottom of the NID defined by bosses and extensions extending downwardly from the base surface. Each cavity provides sufficient space for additional electronics, such as a test circuit, to be housed in the NID. The test circuit is housed within the cavity and is electrically connected between the incoming telephone company line and the jack of a line module. The line module is mounted above the test circuit by mating connecting means on the bottom of the line module to cooperative connection means on the base surface. When mounted in this manner, the bottom of the line module is approximately flush with the flat base surface of the NID base, such that mounting the test circuit in the cavity does not cause the line module to extend upwardly any farther from the base surface than would occur if the line module was housed in a conventional NID without a cavity. Therefore, the height of the NID is preferably not affected by the cavities. Also, each cavity preferably does not extend outwardly beyond the footprint of the line module and therefore the cavities do not increase the overall length or width of the NID.

A telephone network interface device for a building entrance terminal includes a cabinet for housing one or more interface modules. Each interface module is hingedly connected to a rail on the bottom of the cabinet such that the module can be rotated upwardly or downwardly and secured in the cabinet with a special screw. Each interface module has a front face and a back face. The equipment mounted on the front face of the panel constitutes the subscriber equipment and the equipment mounted on the back face constitutes the service provider equipment. When the interface module is rotated upwardly, a walled housing on the back face which contains service provider equipment presses against a foam pad within the cabinet, thus providing an environmental seal to equipment mounted within the housing. When the interface module is rotated upwardly and secured, the front face of the panel with the subscriber equipment is accessible to anyone who opens the cabinet, including the subscriber. When the interface module is unlocked by service provider personnel and the interface module is rotated downwardly, the front face of the panel faces generally downward and the back face of the panel faces generally outward, thus restricting access of the service provider equipment only to service provider personnel.

Network interface apparatus for being mounted on a connector block and for interconnecting at least one incoming telephone company line to at least one telephone subscriber line and for providing a response to signals carried by the incoming telephone company line such as a response to test signals carried by the incoming telephone line to locate a fault as being on the telephone central office side of the apparatus or on the telephone subscriber side of the apparatus.

Individual security subscriber line module including a generally rectangular, hollow box-like structure including a top, bottom, opposed sides and opposed first and second ends, such structure providing an internal space for receiving an individual circuit; a pair of subscriber wiring terminals mounted on the top for connection to a subscriber line, a plug connected to the pair of subscriber wiring terminals by first electrical conductors; a jack mounted on the top and provided with second electrical conductors for connecting the jack to the incoming telephone company line, the jack for having the plug plugged therein to interconnect the pair of subscriber wiring terminals and thereby the subscriber line to the incoming telephone company line and the plug for being unplugged from the jack to provide a demarcation point between the subscriber line and incoming telephone company line, and upon the plug being unplugged from the jack the jack for receiving the plug of an operating telephone to facilitate determination of whether a fault exists on the subscriber line or the incoming telephone company line; and mounting structure for mounting the module removably to a telephone network interface apparatus for ready removal. The individual subscriber line module may be provided with an individual security cover mounted pivotally on one end of the top of the box-like structure and for being covering and being locked over the pair of subscriber terminals, and may include safety structure for preventing ringing voltage shock hazard to the subscriber.

Telephone network interface apparatus including a base and a wall circumscribing the base and extending outwardly therefrom, the base and wall cooperatively providing an open compartment having a telephone company compartment portion and a subscriber compartment portion; the telephone company compartment portion is for having a plurality of pairs of telephone company terminals mounted therein for connection to a plurality of incoming telephone company lines and the subscriber compartment portion for having a plurality of subscriber terminals mounted therein for connection to a plurality of subscriber premises lines. A telephone company cover is included and is mounted pivotally to a portion of the wall and is for being closed and fastened over the telephone company compartment portion; first fastening means are included for fastening the telephone company cover closed over the telephone company compartment portion. A subscriber cover is also included and is mounted pivotally to the telephone company cover and for being closed and fastened over the subscriber compartment portion; second fastening means are included for fastening the subscriber cover closed over the subscriber compartment portion.

Telephone network interface apparatus for interconnecting incoming telephone company wiring to subscriber premises wiring including a base including a bottom and an outwardly extending wall circumscribing the bottom, the wall includes opposed first and second wall portions and the bottom and wall provide a compartment divided generally into opposed first and second compartment portions, the first compartment portion is adjacent the first wall portion and the second compartment portion is adjacent the second wall portion, the first compartment portion is for having first terminals mounted therein for connection to the telephone company wiring and the second compartment is for having second terminals mounted therein for connection to the subscriber premises wiring; a telephone company cover mounted pivotally to the second wall portion and for overlying the entire compartment, the telephone company cover includes opposed first and second portions, the first portion is solid and is for overlying and closing the first compartment portion and the second cover portion is provided with an opening for overlying and exposing the second compartment portion to the exterior upon the telephone company cover being closed, the telephone company cover is for being fastened only to the base, and the apparatus also includes a first fastener for fastening the telephone company cover only to the base; and a solid subscriber cover mounted pivotally to the second wall portion and for overlying only the second portion of the telephone company cover and for overlying and closing only the second compartment portion, the subscriber cover is for being fastened only to the telephone company cover and the apparatus also includes a second fastener for fastening the subscriber cover only to the telephone company cover. Two embodiments of replaceable individual subscriber line modules are included; one module is provided with a lockable subscriber security cover for denying other subscribers access to the individual subscriber's line terminals.
