A femoral assembly includes a femoral component that includes condylar portions and an anterior flange portion. The condylar portions and anterior flange portion together define an outer side of the femoral component for articulating with a tibial prosthesis and an inner bone facing side opposite the outer side. The inner bone facing side defines five intersecting component inner surfaces that each extend from a lateral side of the femoral component to a medial side thereof. A femoral augment includes condylar portions and an anterior flange portion. The condylar portions and anterior flange portion together define an outer side of the femoral augment comprised of five intersecting augment outer surfaces and an inner side comprising no more than three intersecting augment inner surfaces. The augment outer surfaces correspond to the component inner surfaces of the femoral component. The augment inner surfaces correspond to resected surfaces of a distal femur.

Variable thickness femoral augments

A device for performing a surgical procedure on a knee includes an adjustable femoral portion, a tibial portion and at least one sensor coupled with the femoral and/or tibial portions to sense pressure exerted by the femoral and tibial portions against one another. The femoral portion is adapted for removably coupling with a distal end of a femur to adjust tension in soft tissue adjacent the knee and has at least one positioning feature adapted to move relative to the distal end of the femur as the femoral portion is adjusted, thus helping position a femoral prosthetic on the distal end of the femur. The sensor(s) may be adapted to sense pressure at medial and lateral sides of the knee, and relative pressures may be displayed as data on a visual display. Adjustments to the femoral member may be made to balance pressure at flexion and extension of the knee.

A method for positioning a bone cutting guide on a tibia may begin with coupling a bone cut positioning apparatus with a tibia. The method may also include adjusting the positioning apparatus in a varus/valgus orientation to shine a light emitted by a light emitter approximately along a midline of an anterior surface of the tibia, swinging a pivoting arm about a pivot joint to direct the emitted light along a medial surface of the tibia, adjusting the positioning apparatus in an anterior/posterior orientation to shine the light approximately along a midline of the medial surface, contacting a stylus with a proximal end of the tibia to select a cutting depth for a bone cut to be made on the tibia, and attaching the bone cutting guide to the tibia in a position determined by the positioning apparatus.

Bone positioning device and method

A method of reinforcing the bone in an acetabulum for receiving a prosthetic acetabular implant includes preparing a surface of the acetabulum to receive an acetabular implant. At least one porous generally cylindrical bone reinforcement element is provided. At least one bore is drilled in an area of the acetabulum receiving the prosthetic acetabular implant for receiving at least one and preferably more reinforcement elements in the form of cylindrical pilings. The cylindrical porous bone reinforcement element is inserted in the bore such that an exposed surface of the porous bone reinforcement element is adjacent the surface of the acetabulum. The acetabular implant is then implanted with an outer surface of the acetabular implant supported by the reinforcement members.

A method for positioning a bone cut on a bone may involve: coupling a bone cut positioning apparatus with a body bone; adjusting the positioning apparatus in a varus/valgus orientation relative to the body bone; adjusting the positioning apparatus in an anterior/posterior orientation relative to the body bone; and adjusting the positioning apparatus up or down to select a bone resection level.

A method for positioning a bone cutting guide on a tibia may involve coupling a cutting guide positioning apparatus with a tibia, adjusting the positioning apparatus in a varus/valgus orientation, adjusting the positioning apparatus in an anterior/posterior orientation, adjusting the positioning apparatus up or down to select a tibial bone resection level, and contacting a cutting guide with the tibia, using the adjusted positioning apparatus.

Knee arthroplasty apparatus and method

A total stabilized femoral knee prosthesis is disclosed. Such prosthesis is capable of being formed with varying condyle thicknesses, and may include a stem, stabilizer box and articular surface. Methods of implanting such a prosthesis, as well as of manufacturing same are also disclosed herein.

Femoral prosthesis

Dynamic knee balancing devices, systems and methods provide for enhanced total knee arthroplasty ('TKA') procedures. Devices generally include a stationary femoral member for removably attaching to a distal femur and an adjustable femoral member coupled with the stationary member for adjusting ligament tension of the knee. The adjustable femoral member includes at least one positioning feature for providing positional and/or orientation information for facilitating the TKA procedure. Additionally, the adjustable femoral member is movably couplable with a tibial member engaged with the proximal tibia to allow movement of the knee through a range of motion without removing the device from the joint space. When the adjustable femoral member is adjusted, the positional feature(s) move relative to the distal femur to provide positional information.
