Chrome oxide refractory materials which are a mixture of coarse fused chrome oxide particles and fine chrome oxide particles are disclosed as resistant to silica attack. The refractory materials have a Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3 content of at least about 98.5% and substantially no MgO.

Chrome oxide refractory composition

An improved chromia-magnesia refractory product of co-fused chromia-magnesia grains bonded by an in situ formed chromia bond is prepared by substantially avoiding the presence of grains that will pass through a screen with openings of 150 microns. The resultant product exhibits improved resistance to silicieous materials such as are present in coal slags.

Chromia-magnesia refractory body

Filter for hot gases, comprising a mass of grains formed of a ceramic having a high melting temperature and bonded together at contact point by molten power of the same ceramic.

High temperature filter

A refractory product is shown in the form of a dense sintered alumina-chromia, zirconia-alumina-silica, zirconia-alumina body, or zirconia-chromia-alumina having less than about 8% of homogeneously distributed closed porosity formed by sintering an intimate interdispersion of fine particles of alumina-chromia, zirconia-alumina-silica, zirconia-alumina, or zirconia-chromia-alumina.
