Disclosed herein are system, apparatus, article of manufacture, method and/or computer program product embodiments, and/or combinations and sub-combinations thereof, for providing voice control using multiple digital assistants. In some embodiments, a voice platform operates to receive a voice input from a user. The voice platform selects a digital assistant from a plurality of digital assistants based on a trigger word. The voice platform then generates an intent from the voice input using the selected digital assistant. The voice platform then transmits the intent to a media device for processing.

A method and system for collecting context information in response to prediction of an emergency event. A cloud-based computing system could determine that an emergency event is predicted to impact a customer premises at an upcoming time. Responsive to that determination, and before the upcoming time, the cloud-based computing system could then cause or more on-premises computing devices at the customer premises to collect and report context information, such as a count of people present at the customer premises and/or an operational state of one or more utilities or other systems at the customer premises, that may assist in responding to the emergency event. Further, the cloud-based computing system could select a given such device at the customer premises to function as a coordinating device to work with one or more other devices at the customer premises to collect and report the context information.

Various embodiments for customizing a user interface based on user capabilities are described herein. An embodiment operates by determining a biometric of a user representing a characteristic of a finger size of the user based on an interaction performed by the user. It is determined that the biometric of the user indicates an ability of the user to navigate a user interface with one or more different features based on an ability of the user to interact with at least one existing feature of the user interface. Based on the determined biometric an identity of the user is determined. The determined identity of the user is verified by performing one or more verification actions subsequent to the determining the identity of the user. The user interface is customized, one or more different features corresponding to the finger size of the user are displayed.

Customizing a user interface based on user capabilities

Intelligently downloading content to user devices is described herein. According to an embodiment, a user request for content is received. In response to the request, a low quality version of the content is downloaded and played to the user. Then, a higher quality version of the content is downloaded (this may occur during or after the download or playback of the low quality version of the content). Playback of the low quality version is discontinued. Then, playback of the higher quality version begins at the point where playback of the low quality version was discontinued. In some embodiments, the low quality version and the higher quality version of the requested content (among all the versions of the requested content) are identified via crowdsourcing.

Intelligent download of content

Streaming content using a data streaming device having limited power is described. A data streaming device receives streaming content from a network and provides the streaming content for display on a content display device. Data streaming device includes power supplies that receive power from the content display device. The power supplies use the power to operate components of data streaming device that process the streaming content. A measuring module measures the power provided to the data streaming device. When the power is insufficient, a controller generates an indication that there is insufficient power to operate the components of the data streaming device. The controller may also modify functionality of the components to operate using available power or disable a component of the data streaming device.

Disclosed herein is an audio responsive remote control for controlling a media device. The remote control includes at least a speaker and microphone. The remote control is configured to: detect the talk button being pressed; responsive to the detection and within a time period that commences from the detection, analyze received audio data received to recognize one or more audio commands; and process the recognized audio commands. The remote control is also configured to: determine a volume level of the received audio data; and audibly confirm the recognized audio commands at the determined volume level. According to some embodiments, the remote control also includes a motion sensor, and is configured to: detect motion of the remote control using the motion sensor; determine that the detected motion corresponds to a volume changing motion; and adjust volume of the remote control and/or a media device according to the volume changing motion.

Described herein are various embodiments directed to skipping the opening sequence of streaming content. An embodiment operates by streaming content to a display device and determining an end of a teaser portion has been reached using crowdsourced metadata. Responsive to the determining, a skin icon is provided to the display device for display. A selection of the skip icon is received to advance past the title sequence/opening credits portion of the content. An end to the title sequence/opening credits portion of the content is determined using the crowdsourced metadata. The streaming of the content is advanced to the end of the title sequence/opening credits portion of the content.

Disclosed herein are system, apparatus, article of manufacture, method and/or computer program product embodiments, and/or combinations and sub-combinations thereof, for a device including a functional circuit, a power monitor circuit, and a controller. The functional circuit can be configured to perform a function. The power monitor circuit can collect power usage data of the functional circuit. The controller can transmit the power usage data to a master control device, and receive an instruction provided by the master control device. The instruction is generated based on the power usage data of the functional circuit and related to the function. Based on the instruction received from the master control device, the controller can adjust the function performed by the functional circuit.

Further, the method includes receiving user input selecting a given one of the applications, the selected application defining given control-group data defining a given set of one or more functional interrelationships. Disclosed herein are various embodiments for a media device upgrading system with a native user interface. An embodiment operates by displaying a native user interface of a media device configured to operate in both a normal mode without an upgrader device and an upgrader mode when an upgrader device is connected to an input port of the media device. It is determined that the upgrader device is connected a command is received via the native user interface. It is determined that the command operates a software component, and the command is provided to the upgrader device. A response to executing the command is received from the upgrader device, and a response is displayed on the native user interface.

Disclosed herein is a dynamic backup battery for updating the firmware of a media device. The media device includes a memory device that is electrically coupled to a port. The port of the media device is configured to receive a first power. The media device also includes a battery that is electrically coupled to the port and is configured to supply a second power to the port. The media device includes a processor electrically coupled to the battery and is configured to monitor the power level of the first power received and based on the power level of the first power received falling below a threshold value, the battery supplies a second power to the port of the media device.
