An arrangement, for use in whitening a patient's teeth includes an arched surface and an array of light-generating devices, for example, light emitting diodes positioned on the arched surface. The light-generating devices are arranged to form a relatively uniform field of light in a particular range of wavelengths, and further arranged to focus the generated light in an overlapping manner onto a patient's teeth when the mouthpiece is properly positioned relative to the patient's face. The proper positioning is aided by a number of light sources, in the visible range, that shine on the patient's face in a predetermined manner when the mouthpiece is properly positioned. To remove whatever heat is generated at the surface of the patient's teeth in the course of the procedure, the mouthpiece includes air passages between the light emitting devices, and a fan that draws air away from the patient's face.

Apparatus for simultaneous illumination of teeth

Compositions having a curable unsaturated compound, an adhesion promoter and curing agent which have a peak exotherm of less than 50&deg; C. are disclosed. The compositions when cured are flexible bioadhesives which are also disclosed. Non-curable diluents can be included in the compositions. Flexible bioadhesives formed on biological structures and having low peak exotherms upon curing of curable compositions to form the flexible bioadhesives are disclosed. Compositions having a curable unsaturated compound and a curing agent and a peak exotherm of less than 50&deg; C. are included in the invention.

Low peak exotherm curable compositions

The present invention provides a device for tooth whitening which has a light source, at least one optical output, a projection means for holding and positioning said optical output outside of a patient's mouth in a manner to so as to provide approximately simultaneous and uniform illumination of a patient's front teeth by said optical output; and a connection means for connecting said light source to said optical output. Also provided are methods of using the tooth whitening device with a tooth-whitening composition containing a transparent carrier compound and a transparent oxidizing compound which when in contact with the surface of a stained tooth and exposed to actinic light is activated to facilitate tooth whitening.

Tooth whitening device and method of using same

A laser system for use in performing dental procedures is provided. The system includes a handpiece which is capable of being connected to a source of laser light, such as a fiber optic cable. The fiber optic capable carries laser light into the handpiece. For most of the purposes contemplated herein, the argon laser light is preferred. The handpiece includes a collimating lens such that the laser light is collimated and a collimated laser output exits said handpiece. Collimated laser light is found to be useful in initiating the curing of dental resin restorative materials. Also placed within the handpiece is a mirror for controlling the direction of laser light output from said handpiece and for directing the collimated laser light toward a dental work area. Finally, multiple detachable attachments are provided which are capable of being mounted on the exterior or at the proximal end of said handpiece for optionally modifying said collimated laser light output. Such attachments may include lenses, optical filters, and fiber optic cables.
