The present disclosure provides an engine cooling system for controlling the temperature of an engine of a motor vehicle. The system includes an engine cooling circuit for circulating a coolant to transfer heat from the engine to an airflow. An electric water pump is configured to circulate the coolant through the circuit at a maximum electric pump flow rate, and a mechanical water pump is configured to circulate the coolant through the circuit at a maximum mechanical pump flow rate that is higher than the maximum electric pump flow rate. The circuit further includes a selector valve configured to fluidly connect one of the electric water pump and the mechanical water pump to the engine. An engine control module generates a valve signal for actuating the selector valve to fluidly connect one of the electric water pump and the mechanical water pump to the engine.

Dual pump system and method for cooling an engine of a motor vehicle

A communication module is configured to obtain, from a first computing device associated with an energy receiver, an energy request. The energy request includes a location of the energy receiver and an amount of energy requested. A selection module is configured to generate a list of energy sources available to satisfy the energy request. The communication module is further configured to: transmit the list of energy sources to the first computing device for display; receive, from the first computing device, a selection of one energy source from the list of energy sources; and transmit, to the first computing device and a second computing device associated with the selected one energy source, a location at which the energy request is to be fulfilled. Energy transfer systems and methods

An actuator is provided for preventing rotation of a rotary component and includes a first pawl pivotable about a first pivot axis and engageable with the rotary component for preventing rotation of the rotary component in a first rotary direction. A second pawl is pivotable about a second pivot axis and engageable with the rotary component for preventing rotation of the rotary component in a second rotary direction opposite the first rotary direction. The pawls are each biased toward an engaged position with the rotary component by a pawl spring. A first and a second solenoid each include an electrically activated solenoid and an armature movable from a first position for holding the pawls out of engagement with the rotary component to a second position for allowing the pawls to be engaged with the rotary component.

A method of controlling a selectable one way clutch operable to selectively couple a shaft to a housing of a transmission includes determining if an electric motor is currently operating, and if the selectable one way clutch is currently engaged to couple the shaft to the housing. It is further determined whether or not wheel torque of at least one wheel is currently being actively managed by at least one vehicle control system. When the electric motor is operating with the selectable one way clutch engaged, and wheel torque of at least one wheel of the hybrid vehicle is currently being actively managed by at least one vehicle control system, then selectable one way clutch is disengaged to release the shaft from the housing and allow rotation of the shaft relative to the housing.

Method of controlling a selectable one way lutch of a transmission

A vehicle includes a transmission, which is characterized by the absence of a friction clutch that is operable to limit torque transfer between the drive wheels and a shaft of the transmission, to prevent torque communication between the drive wheel and the shaft. The transmission includes a selectable one way clutch, which interconnects a housing of the transmission and the shaft. The selectable one way clutch is selectively operable to prevent rotation of the shaft in at least one rotational direction. The selectable one way clutch includes a torque limiting system, such as a ball-detent torque limiting mechanism, which is operable to prevent torque transfer greater than a pre-defined value, between the housing and the shaft.

Transmission brake and torque limiting system

A vehicle and a locking assembly are disclosed. The locking assembly includes a pawl rotatable about a pivot axis between an engaged position and a disengaged position. The pawl is adapted to engage the ring gear when in the engaged position for preventing movement of the ring gear. The locking assembly further includes an actuator selectively actuated to move the pawl to the engaged position. Additionally, the locking assembly includes a biasing mechanism engaging the pawl to continuously bias the pawl toward the disengaged position. The pawl includes a first tooth and a second tooth spaced from each other to define a gap therebetween. The first tooth and the second tooth are adapted to trap a tooth of the ring gear in the gap when the pawl is in the engaged position for preventing rotation of the ring gear.

A selectable one-way clutch includes an inner member having a plurality of clutch teeth on an outer perimeter thereof. An outer clutch assembly includes at least one side plate supporting a plurality of pivoting pawls engageable with the clutch teeth of the inner member and an actuator operable to engage the plurality of pivoting pawls to selectively allow and or prevent the plurality of pivoting pawls from engaging the inner member. The at least one side plate includes an opening therethrough with a plurality of inner peripheral notches corresponding to the plurality of clutch teeth that allow the inner member to be received through the opening in the at least one side plate during assembly.

Selectable one-way clutch

A brake mechanism includes a clutch unit and a disc. The clutch unit includes a first and second engagement mechanism. Each engagement mechanism presents at least one tooth. The disc defines at least one slot. Each engagement mechanism is movable relative to the disc between a disengaged position and an engaged position. The tooth of the first engagement mechanism is configured to engage the slot of the disc when in the engaged position to cease rotation of the disc in a first direction of rotation. The tooth of the second engagement mechanism is configured to engage the slot of the disc when in the engaged position to cease rotation of the disc in a second direction of rotation, opposite the first direction of rotation. The disc is configured to rotate about an axis of rotation, relative to the clutch unit, when each engagement mechanism is in the disengaged position.

Brake mechanism for a hybrid transmission

A brake mechanism for a hybrid transmission includes a magnetic unit and a brake plate. The magnetic unit is configured to selectively generate magnetic flux. The magnetic unit radially surrounds an axis of rotation. The magnetic unit defines a plurality of grooves. The brake plate radially surrounds the axis of rotation and includes a plurality of teeth. The brake plate is movable axially along the axis of rotation between a disengaged position and an engaged position. The brake plate is configured to rotate about the axis of rotation, relative to the magnetic unit when in the disengaged position. The teeth of the brake plate are configured to engage the corresponding grooves of the magnetic unit when in the engaged position in response to generation of magnetic flux by the magnetic unit, such that rotation of the brake plate is ceased.

A method of controlling a level of fluid in a main sump of a transmission includes opening an auxiliary reservoir with a first valve when fluid temperature in the main sump is at or below the predetermined temperature. The first valve is opened to increase the level of fluid in the main sump to at least a predetermined height so that transmission rotating components contact the fluid and generate splash lubrication. When the transmission is transmitting torque and the fluid is above the predetermined temperature, the level of fluid in the main sump is maintained below a predetermined height with closed first valve, such that the rotating components do not contact the fluid inside the main sump. A fluid pump alone is sufficient to lubricate the rotating components above the predetermined temperature and sufficient to lubricate the rotating components at or below the predetermined temperature only with splash lubrication.

Transmission sump level control system

A torque transmitting mechanism includes a drum attached to one of a first member and a second member, and a shell attached to another of the first member and the second member. The drum and the shell are concentrically disposed about a longitudinal axis, with the shell concentrically disposed about the drum. An electric motor includes a stator, and a first rotor rotatable about the longitudinal axis relative to the stator. A band is coupled to the shell, wrapped around the drum between four and twelve complete revolutions, and includes a first end attached to the first rotor for rotation with the first rotor. The band includes a second end attached to a reaction member. Rotation of the first rotor tightens the band against the drum to bias the drum against the shell, to transmit torque between the first member and the second member.

Electrically actuated rotating band torque transmitting mechanism for hybrid and other transmissions

A vehicle powertrain includes a first rotatable member and a second rotatable member. A clutch has an engaged state in which torque is transferred between the first rotatable member and the second rotatable member through the clutch. The clutch has a disengaged state in which torque is not transferred between the first rotatable member and the second rotatable member through the clutch. A clutch actuator includes a motor-generator that has a rotor rotatably drivable by one of the first rotatable member and the second rotatable member, and has a stator powerable to rotatably drive the rotor relative to said one of the first rotatable member and the second rotatable member. A controller is operatively connected to the stator and is configured to control the motor-generator to function as a generator to provide torque on the rotor. The motor-generator provides electrical power to a vehicle component.

The computer executes logic to receive a price per unit of energy that is stored in the vehicle, compute an energy consumption rate of the vehicle over a time period, multiply the price per unit by the energy consumption rate to determine a cost of the energy consumption rate over the time period, and display the cost of the energy consumption rate for the time period on the display device in the vehicle.
