Methods and systems for providing load balancing are provided. Example embodiments provide an Application Workspace System 'AWS' which enables users to access remote server-based applications using the same interface that they use to access local applications, without needing to know where the application is being accessed. In one embodiment, a load balancing message bus is provided that performs load balancing and resource discovery within the AWS. For example, the AWS may use a broadcast message-bus based load balancing to determine which servers to use to launch remote application access requests or to perform session management. Managing a virtualized application workspace on a managed computing device

A user accesses a remote session, the connection to which is managed by a connection broker, according to a single sign-on (SSO) process. The SSO process includes the user entering his or her credentials and being authenticated to the connection broker. In addition to user authentication, the SSO process includes connection broker authentication to confirm that the connection broker is trustworthy. When the connection broker is authenticated, the user credentials are transmitted to the connection broker in a secure manner and the connection broker forwards them onto a machine hosting the remote session so that the user can be logged into the remote session without entering his or her credentials again.

A technique for installing or upgrading an application on a managed device of a user is provided. The technique comprises storing a set of packages for the application, and performing a first determination as to whether the user portion of any package of the set of packages has been installed on the managed device. Based on the first determination, the technique selectively performs a removal process of unwanted packages. The technique comprises performing a second determination as to whether the user portion of any package of the set of packages has been installed on the managed device, and responsive to performing the second determination, selectively performing a process of upgrading and installing packages. In one embodiment, a method allows an application running in a first process to communicate with a second process. A file system filter driver receives a command from the application for a file. The file system filter driver is configured to process file system commands. The file system filter driver determines that the command is for an inter-process communication with a service running in the second process based on the command being for the file. Then, the file system filter driver sends the command to the service running in the second process where the command is processed by the service. A response from the service is received based on the command being processed by the service and the file system filter driver sends the response to the application.

Methods, systems, and techniques that enable enhanced coordination and management of a plurality of servers cooperatively operating in a cluster of servers. In one implementation, a plurality of enhanced Virtual Desktop Management (VDM) Servers operating in a Federated Virtual Desktop Management (VDM) Cluster are provided. Each of the enhanced VDM Servers active in the Federated VDM Cluster use federated task information pertaining to and derived from various executing federated tasks. However, only a single selected one of the plurality of enhanced VDM Servers is executing a particular one of the federated tasks at a time so that each federated task is continuously running somewhere in the Federated VDM Cluster.
