The invention provides a titania-zirconia or a titania-zirconia-alumina catalyst base containing a system of metals, metal oxides or metal sulfides from Groups VIB, VIIB and VIII of the Periodic Table. Such catalyst are useful in the hydrodesulfurization and denitrogenation of hydrocarbon feed stocks and the saturation of aromatics contained therein.

Use of catalyst comprising titania and zirconia in hydrotreating

The conversion of alcohols and ethers to gasoline boiling constituents with HZSM-5 catalyst in a fluid catalyst system is arranged for reactant plug flow wherein the reaction temperature is controlled by the heat of vaporization of liquid reactant charged to the reactor. Vaporization of the reactant with recycled catalyst in acceptable ratios restricts reaction temperatures to within acceptable limits.

Conversion of liquid alcohols and ethers with a fluid mass of ZSM-5 type

Synthesis gas comprising a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen is derived from fossil fuels and catalytically converted in a first reaction zone to a mixture of methanol and dimethyl ether which in turn is converted in a separate reaction zone in contact with a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite catalyst having a silica to alumina ratio of at least about 12 and a constraint index of about 1 to 12, and preferably a crystal density in the hydrogen form of not substantially below about 1.6 grams per cubic centimeter to a product which is resolved into a high octane gasoline fraction, a light hydrocarbon gas fraction which may be liquefied and a hydrogen-rich gaseous by-product which is recycled to the conversion of fossil fuels to synthesis gas or may be otherwise used.

A method and sequence of process steps is described for effecting the conversion of lower alcohols comprising methanol, ethanol, and propanol to primarily olefin boiling range component under conditions to significantly extract reaction heat and selectively control the restructuring of the alcohol feed through the production of ethers and particularly olefins.

The conversion of methanol to gasoline boiling hydrocarbons in a thermally balanced operation with a special group of zeolite catalysts having a constraint index of 1 to 12, a silica to alumina ratio of at least about 12 and a crystal density of not substantially lower than about 1.6 grams per cubic centimeter is described. The steady state operation of the process is improved by feeding methanol preheated to a selected temperature proximate to its boiling point so that the heat required thereafter to vaporize the feed and to raise its temperature to conversion temperature is substantially equal to the exothermicity of the conversion itself.

Reacting mixtures of difficultly convertible aliphatic organic oxygenate compounds, such as short chain aldehydes, carboxylic acids or carbohydrates with easily convertible aliphatic alcohols, ethers, acetals and analogs thereof over a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite having a silica to alumina ratio of at least about 12 and a constraint index of about 1 to 12, at elevated temperatures, 0.5 to 50 LHSV and 1 to 200 atmospheres to produce a product comprising water, full range highly aromatic hydrocarbon gasoline and light aliphatic hydrocarbon gases having an improved production of C.sub.6 and C.sub.10 monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

Manufacture of gasoline

Catalysts capable of desulfurizing organo-sulfur compounds particularly those normally found in petroleum compositions, such as thiophene, are prepared from metal-containing compounds of metals of Groups VIB and VIII of the Periodic Table on a refractory support or base. Of particular interest are catalysts containing components of cobalt and molybdenum oxides on alumina which preparation utilizes dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). The use of such catalysts provides increase of conversion rate-constants of desulfurization reactions. A process of treating the base and the base material obtained from such process are also disclosed herein.
