A bandolier carrier strip for carrying pin-like contact elements through a plating bath and for subsequent use in automated insertion apparatus is provided by a non-metallic strip-like base member of flexible non-conductive material with a layer of conductive material on at least one side thereof. The bandolier has a plurality of pairs of spaced apertures spaced longitudinally therealong. When the bandolier is flexed along its longitudinal center line, the apertures in a selected pair of apertures align allowing a pin-like contact element to be inserted therewithin. When the flexing action is released, the natural flexural characteristic of the bandolier tends to straighten out the same and cause the pin-like contact element to be releasably gripped in the apertures and placed in electrical contact with the conductive material on the surface of the strip-like base member. This process is repeated to load the pairs of spaced apertures with pin-like contact elements. During a subsequent plating operation, the conductive material on the bandolier permits an electrical charge to be applied to the pin-like contact elements through drive sprockets. The bandolier, with the pin-like contact elements loaded therein, is passed through an oppositely charged plating bath whereby the pin-like contact elements and the conductive layer are plated with plating material. Several different embodiments of the bandolier are illustrated and described.

A method and apparatus for altering the normal blade geometry of a wet shaving razor in response to aggressive shaving forces, thereby avoiding nicks and cuts that would otherwise occur.

Dynamic razor

A razor blade assembly which is flexible in at least one bending mode. A seat member of substantially planar shape has an integrally formed guard located transversely along its forward margin. The guard and seat members are formed of a flexible material. A flexible blade having a sharpened edge along a transverse margin is disposed on a surface of the seat member having its edge parallel to and rearwardly located of the guard bar. A cap member of flexible material has a planar surface in contact with the blade and a front margin located rearwardly of the cutting edge. The seat, blade and cap are yieldingly bonded together and freely flexible about an axis parallel to the plane of the blade and perpendicular to the cutting edge.

Safety razor

An improved twin blade razor system having a unitary member positioned between the pair of blades for both spacing the blades and ejecting shaving debris from that space. The unitary member, which may conveniently be of injection molded plastic, includes a spacer portion, an ejector portion, and biasing apparatus connecting the ejector portion and the spacer portion for biasing the ejector portion to a normally retracted position relative to the blades and spacer. The ejector portion is manually displaceable to an advanced ejecting position. The biasing portion may be one or more beam springs connected and configured to reduce distortion and/or stressing of the relatively moving portions of the member during actuation.

Clean-out mechanism for twin blade shaving unit

Blade sharpening apparatus including two final honing wheels of substantially cylindrical geometrical configuration. The wheels are nominally five inches in length and six inches in diameter, the diameter of the exit end of the wheel being approximately 0.0015 inches greater than the entrance end. The wheel mounted on either side of a continuous blade strip rotate about parallel axes which are also parallel to the edge of the blade strip. A spiral helix is formed on the surface of each wheel such that when the wheels are intermeshed a nip running along and parallel to the blade edge is formed. The material from which the wheels are fabricated is selected to have sufficient resiliency so as to form a final facet on the blade of substantially convex geometry.

The specific embodiments provide a razor blade comprising at least one cutting edge, and an adherent fluorocarbon polymer coating on the cutting edge. The coating has microscopic raised portions. There is also provided a method of treating a razor blade comprising depositing on the cutting edge of the blade a composition comprising a first fluorocarbon polymer and a second fluorocarbon polymer having a molecular weight greater than the first polymer. The deposited composition is heated at a temperature sufficient to cause the first polymer to melt and flow and insufficient to cause the second polymer to melt and flow. Alternatively, the molecular weights of the two polymers are chosen to be sufficiently different such that when the two polymers melt during a heating step the viscosity of the high molecular weight second polymer is sufficiently high to avoid or at least minimize flow.
