A mobile device is configured with electrical circuitry that causes the transmit channel electrical circuitry of the transmitter (Tx) of the mobile device to be electrically coupled to the receive channel electrical circuitry of the receiver (Rx) of the mobile device when one or more predetermined conditions occur. The electrical coupling of the transmit channel circuitry to the receive channel circuitry causes the Rx to be sufficiently damaged to render the mobile device nonoperational, thereby preventing further use of the mobile device. The one or more predetermined conditions correspond to conditions that indicate the mobile device has been lost or stolen and/or that an unauthorized user is attempting to use the mobile device in some manner.

Method and apparatus for automatically damaging circuitry of a mobile device when one or more conditions are detected

An electronically steerable antenna includes at least one driven element, at least one controllable counterpoise element, and a support structure on which the driven element and the controllable counterpoise element are disposed. The controllable counterpoise element has at least one geometric characteristic which can be varied. A radiating angle of the driven element is selectively controlled, at least in part, by modifying the geometric characteristic of the at least one controllable counterpoise element. The counterpoise element may include multiple conductive segments, at least a subset of which may be adapted to be individually electrically connected together so as to modify the radiating angle of the driven, element.

Electronically steerable antenna

In a preferred embodiment, a battery charging system in the form of an integrated circuit (IC), incorporated in a consumer electronic device, has a charging controller, a charging current generator, a junction temperature sensor, and a device current monitor. The junction temperature sensor provides to the charging controller a measured junction temperature of the IC. The charging current generator utilizes fractional synthesis, which involves regulating the duty cycles of multiple current sources, to achieve increased current resolution. The charging controller regulates the charging current provided by the charging current generator based on the relation of the measured junction temperature to three or more threshold temperatures. The device current monitor provides to the charging controller information about the current utilization of the consumer electronic device, thus allowing the charging controller to determine the device non-charging current and give priority for available current to user applications running on the consumer electronic device.
