A fresh air heating system includes air intake and discharge chambers, a direct-fired gas burner mounted in a burner chamber in fluid communication with intake and discharge chambers therebetween, and a bypass opening between the air intake and discharge chambers that is selectively closed by a hatch cover having a panel and a peripheral wall extending from the panel. The hatch cover is movable between a first position wherein the hatch cover closes the bypass opening and the panel is positioned substantially horizontal and a second position wherein the hatch cover is lifted away from the bypass opening so as to minimize variations of air pressure differential across the bypass opening; the hatch cover being configured to lift away from the bypass opening when there is a positive variation of pressure between the air intake and discharge chambers, wherein the peripheral wall allows minimizing aerodynamic lift and the inherent reduction of static pressure under the panel when the hatch cover is lifted away from the bypass opening.

Passive constant pressure hatch for fresh air direct fired gas heated ventilation systems

A terminal unit for an air handling system and comprised of a housing having a conditioned air inlet for receiving forced conditioned air in the housing. A main outlet opening and a by-pass air outlet opening are provided in the housing. An air flow path is defined between the air inlet and the outlet openings. An air divider gate is slidingly displaceable transverse to the air flow path to deflect air entering the inlet to one or both of the outlet openings. The divider gate has an outlet obstructing rear end and an upstream deflecting face. A linkage assembly is connected to the divider gate to displace the gate across the flow path to simultaneously open one of the outlet openings and close the other, in equal proportions, as desired, while maintaining a substantially constant total outlet opening area as well as maintaining substantially constant inlet air flow conditions. An actuator device, such as an electric motor or a pneumatic system, is connected to the linkage to effectuate the displacement of the divider gate. The force required to displace the divider gate by the actuator device remains substantially constant throughout the displacement of the gate during operating conditions of the air handling system.

Sliding gate terminal unit for air handling system

A constant air pressure unit for an air handling system. The unit comprises a housing having an air inlet opening for admitting pressurized air into the housing. The housing has a top wall with a by-pass opening therein and a door is displaceably retained over the by-pass opening. The door has a predetermined load whereby the door is caused to lift away from the by-pass opening when the pressure of the air in the housing is equal to the pressure required to lift the load. The door load defines a maximum housing pressure. In the case where the pressure at the inlet opening starts to increase above the predetermined maximum housing pressure, the door lifts and by-passes the excess pressurized air and thus limits the inlet and housing pressures. In a corollary unit, an air outlet opening for releasing air is included. A pressurized airflow path is defined between the inlet opening and the outlet opening. The outlet airflow is restricted by the use of an adjustable restrictor blade which will start to increase the pressure in the housing. With the door load selected for a desired inlet pressure, the excess pressurized air is then evacuated through the by-pass opening so as to maintain a substantially constant air pressure at the inlet and thus a substantially constant inlet airflow volume rate with a variable outlet airflow volume rate.

Constant air pressure unit for air handling system

Air control regulators include automatically operated air curtains in which pressure and volume vary depending upon demand. A lever and fulcrum principle is used in this controller with the fulcrum position being variable. The fulcrum position can be adjusted manually or mechanically over a wide range of positions for each size of regulator and this variable location of the fulcrum varies the air flow rate through the regulator by re-positioning the flexible air curtain assembly within the regulator.
