A pneumatic tire with a belt ply helically wound on a carcass ply. The crown reinforcing structure of the tire includes a single helically wound belt ply reinforced with high elongation steel cords. A preferred steel cord construction for the reinforcing steel cords is 4&#xd7;7 (four strands each including seven filaments) with individual 0.26 mm diameter, High Tensile carbon steel filaments.

A radial medium truck (RMT) tire has belt or breaker plies which are reinforced by organic reinforcement cords or filaments. In one embodiment, organic monofilaments are used in the belt or breaker plies which have the following characteristics: at least 2,000 denier (2,200 dTex), a tenacity of at least 3.5 g/denier (31 cN/Tex), an initial modulus of at least 30 g/denier (265 cN/Tex) and a shrinkage of at most 6%.
