A system and method of selecting messaging settings on a messaging client are provided. A display configured to operate in conjunction with the messaging client displays a compose screen that includes a message portion and a messaging settings portion when an outgoing message is to be composed on the messaging client. Messaging settings selected to control message characteristics of the outgoing message are displayed in the messaging settings portion of the compose screen.

A reverse patch for undoing a forward patch for obtaining a new binary image from an old binary image is generated in two parts. First a reverse index file is generated when the forward patch is created at a host or server. The reverse index file identifies regions of similarity between the old binary image and the new binary image. The reverse index file is transmitted with the forward patch to an electronic device. Second, while applying the forward patch to obtain the new binary image from the old binary image, the electronic device generates the reverse patch based upon the new binary image, the old binary image, and the reverse index file. The forward patch and reverse patch may both be incremental patches. Incremental patches are generated and applied on a sector-by-sector basis.

The system, method and computer program product involve (a) providing a folder pre-selection cache having n configurable entries, n being a predetermined positive integer greater than one, each configurable entry being configured to include an associated pre-selection criterion for matching with the current message, and an associated folder identification for identifying an associated folder in the plurality of folders; (b) for at least one entry in the folder pre-selection cache, comparing a comparison criterion, obtained from the current message, with the associated pre-selection criterion to determine a matching entry in the folder pre-selection cache; and, (c) pre-selecting the folder identified by the associated folder identification of the matching entry when the message comparison module determines the matching entry in the folder pre-selection cache.

A computing device-implemented method and system is provided for obtaining an interim masked substitution table value for a given input component in a cryptographic round, such as an AES cryptographic round, using a substitution table and a self-cancelling mask. A data store configured to operate in conjunction with the messaging client stores records comprising messaging settings or characteristics for previously received and/or sent messages. The messaging client is configured to send outgoing messages, each of the messages having message characteristics, to determine whether a record for an addressed recipient of an outgoing message exists in the data store, and to select messaging settings to control the message characteristics of the outgoing message based on the record where a record exists.

A system for reducing the size of software for use in a mobile device includes a predictor module and a compression module. The predictor module is operable to apply a predicate to a plurality of software routines that are to be stored in the mobile device. The predicate identifies one or more of the software routines having a pre-determined feature indicative of a software routine that is unlikely to be executed repeatedly on the mobile device. The compression module is configured to compress the identified software routine(s) to generate a compressed software routine(s). After the plurality of software routines have been loaded to the mobile device, the mobile device decompresses the compressed software routine(s) when the compressed software routine(s) is accessed by an execution thread on the mobile device.

System and method for reducing the size of software stored on a mobile device

A mobile device receives, via a wireless network, a plurality of messages and stores message information of the messages in memory. Each message includes at least one correspondent address and conversation text with the at least one correspondent address, as well as metadata comprising an identifier for uniquely identifying the message at a server. The mobile device identifies whether a size of the message information has reached a first predetermined limit of the memory. Based on identifying that the size of the message information has reached the first predetermined limit, the mobile device deletes from the memory, automatically without user intervention, at least portions of the conversation text of some of the messages while retaining storage of the correspondent addresses and the metadata thereof. The mobile device also identifies whether the size of the message information has reached a second predetermined limit of the memory, which is greater than the first predetermined limit. Based on identifying that the size of the message information has reached the second predetermined limit, the mobile device deletes from the memory, automatically without user intervention, the correspondent addresses and the metadata associated with the messages having the deleted conversation texts.

Methods and apparatus for efficiently managing the storage of e-mail message information for a mobile station

A wireless mobile communication device has an application program and a garbage collection program stored in memory. The garbage collection program is configured to identify a root set of referenced objects of the application program with use of a reference indicator array and to perform a mark and sweep process based on the root set of referenced objects. The reference indicator array has a plurality of reference indicators where each referenced indicator corresponding to a referenced object is set as referenced. The application program is configured to be executed during execution of a mark and sweep process of the garbage collection program, such that information received or provided via the user interface during the execution of the mark and sweep process is received or provided without suspension or delay. The application program has computer instructions which are based on an instruction set defined by a plurality of opcodes or native codes, including a single predefined opcode or a single predefined native code which is a 'get object reference' instruction. Each 'get object reference' instruction is associated with a target object and is defined to retrieve a reference from the target object and also set one of the reference indicators corresponding to the target object as referenced in the reference indicator array.

Methods and apparatus for concurrently executing a garbage collection process during execution of a primary application program

An incremental patch is generated as a set of delta files or sector-specific patches, intended to be applied incrementally to an old binary image. Each sector-sized patch takes into account changes to the binary image made by previous patches in the series, such that cyclic dependencies are eliminated. The sector-sized patches are generated by applying a binary difference algorithm to the then-current partially patched image, until each sector has a corresponding delta file. The order for patching sectors may be determined by selecting sectors for patching based on first overwriting those sectors making the least contribution of data to generation of the new binary image.
