Embodiments of the invention use signaling mechanisms that enable dynamic reconfiguration of the UL/DL resource partitioning by user equipment (UE) in a TDD wireless communication system, such as the 3GPP TDD Long Term Evolution (TD-LTE) system. The dynamic reconfiguration of the UL/DL resource partitioning disclosed herein may also be applied to any other TDD wireless system employing dynamic reconfiguration of the TDD UL/DL configuration.

Dynamic reconfiguration of uplink transmission in a TDD wireless communication system

Dual-connectivity for the User Equipment (UE) in a cellular network is performed by monitoring a plurality of cells. During dual-connectivity, the UE may be simultaneously connected to one serving cell for the Control Plane (C-plane) and to another serving cell, controlled by a different eNodeB, for the User Plane (U-plane). In another embodiment, the dual-connected UE monitors a Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH) from the first eNB and monitors an EPDCCH from the second eNB.

Methods and apparatus for dual connectivity operation in a wireless communication network

A wireless transmission system included at least one user equipment and a base station. The base station is operable to form a downlink control information block, modulate the downlink control information, precode the modulated downlink control information, and transmit the precoded, modulated downlink control information on at least one demodulation reference signal antenna port to the at least one user equipment. Embodiments of the invention are directed to a cellular communication network that can determine whether communications between one base station-UE pair may interfere with another UE that is in the same cell or a different cell. The network identifies interference parameters associated with interference signals that may be received by a UE. The interference signals may be generated by the base station itself, such as communications with other UEs, or by a neighboring base station. The base station transmits the interference parameters to the UE. The UE receives the one or more parameters comprising information about signals expected to cause intra-cell or inter-cell interference. The UE then processes received signals using the one or more parameters to suppress the intra-cell or inter-cell interference.

Methods for energy-efficient unicast and multicast transmission in a wireless communication system

Aspects of this disclosure relate to user equipment rate selection. Sum rates can be compared including and excluding a candidate layer. Based on the comparison, the candidate layer can be included in a layer set. Rate selection for user equipments of a cluster can be performed based on the layer set. In certain applications, user equipment rate selection can be performed for multiple clusters of user equipments and network nodes. In such applications, inter-cluster interference can be nulled.

Aspects of this disclosure relate to forming clusters of user equipments and network nodes. A first cluster of first user equipments and first network nodes in a first section can be formed for a time slot. A second cluster of second user equipments and second network nodes in a second section can be formed for the time slot such that the first user equipments are protected from interference associated with the second cluster. During the time slot, the first section has higher priority than the second section. Multiple-input multiple-output wireless communications can occur during the time slot (a) from the first network nodes to the first user equipments and (b) from the second network nodes to the second user equipments.

Clustering in multiple-input multiple-output communication systems

Aspects of this disclosure relate transmitting and/or receiving reference symbols. A first reference symbol includes a symbol and a cyclically shifted portion of the symbol, where the cyclically shifted portion has cyclic shift length. A second reference symbol includes a cyclically shifted version of the first reference symbol that is cyclically shifted relative to the first reference symbol by the cyclic shift length. The first and second reference symbols are transmitted consecutively from at least one antenna.

A method of operating a time division duplex (TDD) wireless communication system is disclosed. The method includes establishing communications with a remote transceiver. A subframe configuration including static and flexible subframes is determined and transmitted to the remote transceiver. A channel state information (CSI) report is received from the remote transceiver in response to the subframe configuration.

Method and apparatus for configuration, measurement and reporting of channel state information for LTE TDD with dynamic UL/DL configuration

A method and user equipment for channel state information (CSI) reporting are described. The method receives a channel quality indicator request. The method determines a channel quality indicator based on a CSI reference resource. The method transmits a CSI report that includes the channel quality indicator via a Physical Uplink Control CHannel (PUCCH) on an uplink subframe. The CSI reference resource belongs to a subframe subset for which the CSI report is sent. The CSI reference resource includes overhead of Demodulation Reference Signals according to a corresponding rank report.

CSI reporting

A method of operating a long term evolution (LTE) communication system on a shared frequency spectrum is disclosed. A user equipment (UE) is initialized on an LTE frequency band. A base station (eNB) monitors the shared frequency spectrum to determine if it is BUSY. The eNB transmits to the UE on the shared frequency spectrum if it is not BUSY. The eNB waits for a first time if it is BUSY and directs the UE to vacate the shared frequency spectrum after the first time.

Method and apparatus for transmitting LTE waveforms in shared spectrum by carrier sensing

Carrier aggregation allows concurrent transmission on multiple component carriers (CC) to increase the data rate. A user equipment (UE) device in a cellular network provides periodic or aperiodic channel state information of the DL channel to a base station (eNB) for each of the aggregated CCs. The UE receives two or more reference signals corresponding to two or more aggregated CCs from an eNB. The UE computes a plurality of channel state information (CSI) reports for each of two or more aggregated CCs derived from the two or more reference signals. The UE receives a positive CSI request from the eNB for a CSI report and transmits CSI feedback to the eNB comprising one or more CSI reports selected from the plurality of CSI reports.
