A method and apparatus for fastening an insulation module to a furnace wall. A stud member is welded onto the furnace wall. A pilot tool is attached to the stud member. An insulation module is impaled over the pilot tool and stud member. A nut is inserted onto the pilot member and threadably engages the stud member to secure the insulation module to the surface.

Method and apparatus for fastening an insulation module to a surface

Mounting means for thermal insulation blocks or modules are described. The means comprises a rounded member adapted to fit into and cooperate with a C-shaped channel member attached to the block, with the rounded member itself being secured by a securing member to the wall of a furnace or like device. The mounting member allows the block to be easily secured to the wall even in locations of limited access.

Insulation module mounting means

A mini-module for insertion into gaps between adjacent refractory fiber blanket modules lining a furnace. This mini-module is formed by folding the ends of a length of refractory fiber blanket toward each other, preferably forming a butt joint. This butt joint is positioned nearer the cold face of the module than the hot face thereby protecting the fiber ends exposed in the blanket ends from damage (e.g., shrinkage).

A machine for forming blocks of fibrous insulation from a continuous fibrous blanket. These folded blocks may be used in furnace linings or the like. A pair of oscillating folder vanes form folds which extend in alternating directions. The vanes are oscillated by a continuously driven motor through a crank linkage. A reciprocating support vane engages the newly formed folds and supports them while the folder vanes are being disengaged from the blanket. A feeder drum and bearing member co-act to form a material supply loop from which the folds are made. The same motor drives all moving parts making the controls simple and inexpensive.

Apparatus for forming thermal insulation blocks

A thermal insulation device is described comprising a modular or block insulation composed of at least two layers of serpentine folded fibrous insulating blankets with the layers of blankets being secured by means of extended folds of the hot face layer being interengaged with folds of the cold face layer, with the cold face layer then being separately secured to attachment means for mounting the block on the wall, ceiling, door or other surface of a furnace, kiln or like structure. The layers of fiber are commonly composed of fibers of different compositions, with the more thermally resistant fiber comprising the outer or hot face layer and the less thermally resistant composition comprising the inner or cold face layer.

Multiple layer thermal insulation device

A device is described for support of electrical heater elements in a furnace thermally insulated by blocks of fibrous insulation and heated by the electrical heater elements. The device comprises a bar shaped member disposed at the hot face of the block and having element support means therewith, the member being releasably secured in position by securing means integral with the block.
