A cosmetic composition comprising a first emulsion and a second emulsion and optionally one or more additional emulsions, each of said two or more emulsions being discretely contained within the composition and comprising an inner phase and an outer phase, each of said two or more emulsions being independently a water-in-oil emulsion, an oil-in-water emulsion, an oil-in-oil emulsion, a polyol-in-oil emulsion, a water-in-silicone emulsion, a silicone-in-water emulsion, or a polyol-in-silicone emulsion in physical contact with at least one other emulsion, at least one of said two or more emulsions being visually distinct from the others, and each of said two or more emulsions as well as said composition being independently both physically and visually stable within the composition for at least six months at ambient temperature.

Compositions having a plurality of discrete emulsions

Provided are methods of treating skin with at least two alternating treatment modalities to improve the health and/or diminish signs of aging. Some methods according to the present invention may comprise topically applying at least two separate compositions, in a sequential, rotating, or alternating fashion to overcome adaptation, tolerance, or sensitization phenomena.

Methods for treating skin

A multi-function hand tool is provided. The multi-function hand tool includes a first member and a second member pivotally connected to the first member such that the hand tool is pivotable between an open orientation and a closed orientation. The first member includes a first cutting element and a second cutting element disposed proximal to the first cutting element. The first cutting element has a first cutting blade and the second cutting element has a second cutting blade and a first at least one groove. The second member extends between a proximal end and a distal end. The distal end of the second member includes a third cutting element corresponding to the second cutting element. The third cutting element has a third cutting blade corresponding to the second cutting blade and at least one second groove corresponding to the first at least one groove.

Multi-function tool

A self-contained voltage generating system is incorporated in a package or device for housing a product. There is at least one piezoelectric element incorporated in the package or device and the piezoelectric element generates a source of voltage when it is activated. The voltage is then used to perform various activities on other elements that are part of the package or device, such as operate a motor, provide heat, provide ultrasonic energy, furnish light, provide acoustic energy, and provide vibration energy. The piezoelectric elements are in the form of discrete particles, piezoelectric fibers, filaments, transducers, and actuators.

Self-contained voltage generating systems

There is provided a photostable and synergistically enhanced topical sunscreen composition that provides increased substantivity, waterproofness, sweat resistance and rub off resistance. There is further provided methods of enhancing the photostability of a sunscreen active in a topical sunscreen composition, synergistically enhancing the UV absorbance of a topical sunscreen composition having a sunscreen active, and enhancing the substantivity, waterproofness, sweat resistance and rub off resistance in a topical sunscreen composition. The preferred compositions and methods have a sunscreen active, a cosmetically acceptable vehicle, and novel 2-substituted-3,3-diaryl-2-propenoic acid derivatives with [A] a Cto Cstraight or branched chain, substituted or un-substituted, conjugated or non-conjugated hydrocarbon, or [B] a siloxane, polysiloxane, organo-modified polysiloxane residue, a group represented by the formula R[Si(R)]&#x2014; and Rwhich is a silicone residue derived from a silicone represented by the formula ROH having a molecular weight up to about 30,000, wherein each Ris independently selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkoxy, aryl and aryloxy and n is from 1 to about 500.

Sunscreen compounds and compositions containing same and methods for use thereof

There is provided a photostable and synergistically enhanced topical sunscreen composition. There is further provided a method of enhancing the photostability of a sunscreen active in a topical sunscreen composition. There is further still provided a method of synergistically enhancing the UV absorbance of a sunscreen active in a topical sunscreen composition. The preferred compositions and methods of the present invention use a dibenzoylmethane sunscreen active, aextract, and a cosmetically acceptable vehicle.

Photostable sunscreen compositions and methods of stabilizing

Disclosed is an insect repellent composition. The composition has an amount of an insect repellent active effective to repel insects when the composition is applied to the skin, and an amount of a urethane polymer sufficient to form a film on the surface of the skin. The composition also has a cosmetically-acceptable vehicle. Also disclosed is a method of repelling insects from the skin by applying the composition to the skin.

Extended duration insect repellent composition and method of application to the skin

The present invention provides novel aryl benzimidazole sulfonic acid esters and cosmetic compositions that employ the novel aryl benzimidazole sulfonic acid esters as sunscreens. The cosmetic compositions can be water, organic solvent or emulsion based. Also provided are methods of using the compositions to protect skin from exposure to the sun, and optionally, repel insects.

Esters of aryl benzimidazole sulfonic acids and sunscreen compositions containing same

Disclosed is an aerosol insect repellent composition. The composition has (a) an amount of an insect repellent effective to repel insects when applied to the skin and (b) a cosmetically-acceptable vehicle in which to disperse and deliver the insect repellent active. The vehicle has (i) a VOC component capable of volatilizing upon exposure to a reduction in pressure for delivering the composition in an aerosol form, and (ii) a non-VOC component. The aerosol composition has a VOC content of not greater than about 55 wt. % based upon the weight of the aerosol composition. Further disclosed is a method of repelling insects from skin wherein the aerosol composition is applied to or sprayed on the skin.
