An article of footwear includes an upper member and a sole structure, with a sensor system connected to the sole structure. The sensor system includes a plurality of sensors that are configured for detecting forces exerted by a user's foot on the sensor. Each sensor includes two electrodes that are in communication with a force sensitive resistive material. The electrodes and the force sensitive resistive material may have multi-lobed shapes. Additionally, the sensor system may be provided on an insert that may form a sole member of the article of footwear. The insert may have slits therethrough, and may have a defined peripheral shape.

A wearable device with movement indicator, a system and a method for movement indication are provided. The movement indication is implemented on the wearable device. The wearable device receives a movement instruction from a computing host. The movement instruction includes a direction signal that may be accompanied with further instructions such as strength and direction. The instructions are displayed through the movement indicator of the wearable device. A user who wears the wearable device moves in response to a moving instruction. A motion sensor of the wearable device senses a movement signal and obtains a moving direction. Other signals of strength and distance may also be obtained by the motion sensor. After that, the system can score the movement of the wearable device based on the original movement instruction.

An article of footwear includes an upper member and a sole structure, with a sensor system connected to the sole structure. The sensor system includes a plurality of sensors that are configured for detecting forces exerted by a user's foot on the sensor. Each sensor includes two electrodes that are in communication with a force sensitive resistive material. Additionally, the sensor system may be provided on an insert that may form a sole member of the article of footwear. The insert may include an airflow system that includes one or more air chambers in communication with one or more air reservoirs through air passages extending therebetween. The insert may also have a multi-layered structure, with the airflow system provided between the layers.

A manufacturing method, within a modularized manufacturing environment for stabilizing a phylon article that is produced utilizing a heat press, is provided. Initially, the method includes immersing a phylon article in a first tank, with a fluid disposed therein, and withdrawing the phylon article from exposure with the fluid. Typically, the midsole is heated from its production with the heat press when it is placed into the first tank. The immersion in the first tank acts to cool the phylon article, thereby stabilizing the heated phylon. The phylon article may be next placed in a second tank, with a fluid disposed therein, and withdrawn from exposure with the fluid. The fluid of the first tank may reside at a temperature comparable to or higher than the temperature of the fluid of the second tank. Recursively exposing the heated phylon article to the fluid of the tanks incrementally decreases the volume of the article.

Systems and methods for stabilization of a phylon article

A method for producing a regionalized-firmness midsole utilizing a heat press, and a description of the resultant product, are provided. Initially, the method involves providing a plurality of pre-formed phylon biscuits. Typically, the plurality of biscuits includes at least a first biscuit that has a first density and a second biscuit that has a second density. The method may further include the steps of arranging the biscuits into a receiving area of the heat press, and integrating the plurality of biscuits to form the midsole by activating the heat press. Integrating the biscuits includes raising the biscuits above a threshold temperature, and causing the biscuits to expand such that each of the plurality of biscuits couples with another of the biscuits to form a midsole with two or more degrees of firmness located at distributed regions thereon.

Systems and methods for utilizing phylon biscuits to produce a regionalized-firmness midsole

Methods of manufacturing wearable articles include: (a) performing a scan of a body part of a user on which the wearable article will be worn; (b) creating a virtual design of a mold insert configured to mold the wearable article, based on the scan; (c) saving the virtual design in a data file; (d) fabricating the mold insert using a laser sintering, fused deposition modeling, and stereolithography technique; (e) inserting the mold insert into a mold; (f) inserting moldable material into a cavity created at least in part by the mold insert; (g) molding the moldable material to produce the wearable article; and (h) removing the wearable article from the mold. The wearable article may include a portion of an article of footwear, such as a portion of a shoe sole.

Method and apparatus for manufacturing components used for the manufacture of articles

Footwear including removable and replaceable outsole members may include: (a) an upper member; (b) a midsole member, having an exterior surface not designed for performance use in direct contact with the ground, fixedly engaged with the upper member; and (c) an outsole member designed for performance use in contact with the ground removably attached over at least a major portion of the midsole member. The outsole member may attach to the midsole member and/or upper member in a variety of different ways. In use, the wearer may select a specific set of outsole members to use at a given time depending, for example, on the type of play surface, temperature, and/or other conditions. Worn outsole members may be replaced without the expense involved in also replacing the remainder of the footwear.

Customized articles of footwear are produced by defining options that can be selected by a customer when submitting a custom order. These options typically include model options, functional options, and aesthetic options. These options are created by a design source, such as a shoe designer within a particular market, and presented to the customer when making the order. Upon a customer selecting one or more of the options at a user interface, the selected options are converted to specifications associated with the order. A work-load engine is employed to generate, based on the specifications, a work order that includes a dataflow for selecting appropriate stations on a manufacturing floor to participate in a manufacturing process, and a workflow for instructing each of the appropriate stations to perform a sequence of operations, within the manufacturing process, that result in fabricating individual components of the article of footwear according to the order.

Method and system for efficient customized manufacture of shoes

Methods and apparatuses for manufacturing components used in the manufacture of wearable articles are presented. Some of the methods of manufacturing a mold and the apparatuses themselves include, among other features, forming a plate having a mold insert. The mold insert is removably connected to the plate and is formed using a rapid prototyping technique. In addition, methods for manufacturing wearable articles are presented. The methods generally including forming a mold, including a mold insert formed using a rapid prototyping technique. In addition, the methods include performing the steps of a molding operation on the mold. The molding operation may include any of several known molding operations.

Impact-attenuating elements include a plurality of impact-attenuating members and a means for releasably securing the impact-attenuating element to at least one of the upper member or the sole member of a piece of footwear or other foot-receiving device. The impact-attenuating elements may be included in the footwear or other foot-receiving devices in a selectively removable manner so that a user, retailer, or another can customize and freely select an appropriate element, e.g., depending on user preferences, characteristics of the user, characteristics of the intended use, and the like.
