A method implemented by a first device operating in a communication system includes obtaining a channel representation of a set of channels between the first device and a second device, the set of channels being over a set of subcarriers, the first device having multiple antenna ports, and the second device having one or multiple antenna ports; determining, by the first device, one or multiple communication filters in accordance with at least the channel representation; and applying, by the first device, the one or multiple communication filters to a communication on at least one of the multiple antenna ports of the first device, the communication being over the set of subcarriers.

Methods and apparatus for operating in a wideband communication system

Embodiments are provided herein for determining a synchronizing master for device-to-device (D2D) communication in a cellular network environment. In an embodiment, a user equipment (UE) receives a discovery signal comprising a timing reference, and determines a transmitter of the discovery signal. In accordance with the determination of the transmitter of the discovery signal, the UE performs one of synchronizing to the timing reference in the discovery signal and transmitting a second discovery signal. The UE performs the synchronizing to the timing reference if the transmitter of the discovery is a cellular network. Alternatively, the UE transmits the second discovery signal upon determining that the transmitter of the discovery signal is a second UE that is out of coverage of a cellular network.

System and methods for controlling out-of-network D2D communications

A device is configured to perform a method of wireless communication in a wireless communication network. The method includes receiving, from a communications controller, a device-to-device (D2D) subframe configuration to communicate with one or more second wireless devices, the subframe configuration indicating one or more subframes in which to transmit a D2D signal or receive one or more D2D signals. The method also includes receiving, from the communications controller, scheduling information to transmit a first signal to the communications controller on a subframe indicated by the D2D subframe configuration. The method further includes prioritizing the transmission of the first signal over a transmission of the D2D signal or a reception of the one or more D2D signals, and transmitting the first signal.

Method for avoiding collisions between open discovery and cellular resource

A system and method of scheduling transmissions. A wireless device such as an eNodeB (eNB) may schedule a transmission of a wideband (WB) signal on a micro-frame selected from a plurality of WB micro-frames of a WB carrier. A narrowband (NB) subframe may span a portion of the selected WB micro-frame in the frequency-domain, and the selected WB micro-frame may overlap at least a portion of the NB subframe in the time-domain. The WB signal and an NB signal may be transmitted over the WB micro-frame and the NB subframe in accordance with a first numerology and a second numerology, respectively. A WB subframe may be divided into a plurality of micro-frames. The transmission direction of the WB micro-frame may be scheduled according to a transmission rule based on the contents of a payload in the NB subframe.

System and method for a long-term evolution (LTE)-compatible subframe structure for wideband LTE

A system and method for D2D discovery is provided. In an embodiment the method includes sending, by a base station, first parameters to a first User Equipment (UE) indicating a set of discovery resources in a discovery cycle, wherein the discovery cycle comprises a plurality of subframes; and sending, by the base station, second parameters to the first UE indicating a first probability for transmitting a first discovery signal to a second UE on a subframe of the plurality of subframes so that the first UE is capable of transmitting the first discovery signal to a second UE in the discovery cycle according to the first parameters when a random number between 0 and 1, selected by the first UE, is equal or larger than the first probability.

A method for operating a relay node during a handoff from a first controller to a second controller includes receiving a first instruction from the first controller to discontinue using a first set of wireless backhaul link resources allocated to the relay node by the first controller and to temporarily use a second set of wireless backhaul link resources dedicated by the second controller. Each slice segment is a physical or virtual processing element in a wireless network supporting network slicing. In another example, the data streams are multiplexed onto the slice segments such that workloads in the same cluster partitioned in a T-dimensional vector space are assigned to different slice segments.

Apparatus, system and method for traffic data management in wireless communications

A method for providing user equipment access to millimeter wave stations through a microwave station includes receiving an indication of millimeter wave stations operating within a microwave coverage area of a microwave station. In a microwave band, information associated with the millimeter wave stations is broadcasted to user equipment in the microwave coverage area. A request is sent to the millimeter wave stations to transmit configuration signals over a microwave band. An instruction is transmitted over the microwave band to the user equipment to perform proximity measurements of the configuration signals. According to the proximity measurements, a request is sent to a particular millimeter wave station to transmit beamforming signals over a millimeter wave band. An instruction is transmitted over the microwave band to the user equipment to perform beamforming measurements of the beamforming signals. According to the beamforming measurements, the user equipment is switched to millimeter wave operation.

A device is configured to perform a method of device-to-device (D2D) communication in a wireless communication network in accordance with a Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard. The method includes entering an RRC-Idle state or an RRC-Connected state. The method also includes transmitting, in the RRC-Idle state or RRC-Connected state, a D2D discovery signal for receipt by at least one second device in the network. The method further includes receiving, in the RRC-Idle state or RRC-Connected state, at least one D2D discovery signal from the at least one second device in the network.

Embodiments are provide for communicating data or other non-control information messages within a downlink control channel directly, rather than in a data channel or broadcast channel. Thereby, radio resource utilization can be substantially improved in the cellular system, such as in the case of transmitting smaller data packets. In an embodiment, a transmitter arranges a set of time-frequency radio resources, associated with a downlink control channel, for transmitting information other than control information sent on the downlink control channel. The transmitter then sends, on the set of time-frequency radio resources, a data information message comprising the information other than the control information. The information other than the control information comprises one of user-specific data information and broadcast data information. A receiver then receives on the downlink control channel, control information and the data information message.
