A system and method for controlling surveillance cameras is enclosed. In the system, a surveillance camera system includes surveillance cameras configured as VoIP server endpoints. The surveillance cameras receive messages from client devices such as mobile user devices and computer workstations functioning as VoIP client endpoints. The client devices establish a voice communications channel with the surveillance cameras for receiving and controlling one or more streams of image data sent by the surveillance camera over the voice communications channel to the client device. In a preferred embodiment, the voice communications channel includes a control session based on Session Information Protocol (SIP) and a data channel that is based on Real time transfer protocol (RTP) The data channel preferably operates in half duplex mode, which limits the potential for collisions on the data channel when the surveillance cameras are transmitting their image data to the client devices.

System and method for controlling surveillance cameras

A system and method for controlling surveillance cameras is enclosed. In the system, a surveillance camera system includes surveillance cameras configured as VoIP server endpoints. A retail customer tracking system and method is disclosed. The retail system preferably includes at least one surveillance camera for generating image data of customer interactions with products and at least one point of sale camera for generating image data of customers at a point of sale area. An analytics system determines product interactions from the image data of the customer interactions with the products and stores facial image information and the product interactions for each of the customers. When a customer arrives at a point of sale area, facial image information of the customer determined from the image data of the point of sale camera is matched to previously stored facial information for the customer, and associated product interactions for the customer are provided to a management system. The management system then provides sale cues based on the product interactions to the customer at the point of sale area.

System and method for retail customer tracking in surveillance camera network

A system and method for monitoring sensors via surveillance cameras is disclosed. In the system, surveillance cameras generating image data of scenes, where the sensors are included in the scenes. The sensors detect information concerning the scenes and encode the information so that it can be derived from the image data. Preferably, the sensors encode the information concerning the scenes by modulating a visible light source, the signals of which are captured within the image data by the cameras. An analytics system then analyzes the image data and decodes the information from the sensors encoded within the image data. Preferably, an integrated analytics system of the cameras executes the analysis. Exemplary sensors include sensors for detecting temperature, moisture, audio/voice, and product selection in a retail premises.

Method and system for conveying data from monitored scene via surveillance cameras

A system and method for determining relationships between fields of views of surveillance cameras is disclosed. In the system, a user device such as a mobile phone receives image data from the cameras, and an analytics system of the user device analyzes the image data to determine the relationships between the fields of views of the surveillance cameras. The relationships include overlap among fields of view of at least two of the cameras and deadzones, where deadzones are areas monitored by the cameras that are not included within any of the fields of view of any of the cameras. In a preferred embodiment, the surveillance cameras capture image data of a scene while an installer holding the user device walks one or more critical paths through the scene. The user device then analyzes image data from the cameras during the critical path definition to determine any overlap and/or deadzones.

System and method for using mobile device of zone and correlated motion detection

A system and method for modeling and distributing image data of interest to users is disclosed. Users on user devices such as mobile phones send request messages for image data captured by surveillance cameras of the system. The request messages include information for selecting the image data, such as camera number and time of recording of the image data, in examples. In response, an application server of the system collects the image data from the surveillance cameras, and supplies image data to the users based on a model that the application server creates and updates for each of the users. The model ranks image data of potential interest for each of the users, where the model is based on the information for selecting the image data provided by the users. Preferably, a machine learning application of the application server creates the model for each of the users.

Method and system for modeling image of interest to users

A system and method for deadzone detection in a surveillance camera network is disclosed. In a preferred embodiment, a mobile user device held by an installer is moved through one or more critical paths within the premises while surveillance cameras of the network are capturing image data of the premises. An analytics system then tracks the installer/user device through the image data over the time interval for the critical path definition, and locates deadzones based on position information of the premises along the critical path and absence of installer/user device in the image data over the time interval. In another embodiment, an analytics system identifies individuals within image data captured from the cameras, tracks movement of the individuals across the fields of view of the cameras represented by the image data, and infers deadzones based on tracking the individuals and deadzone times calculated for each of the individuals.

A method and system for configuring surveillance cameras can be used to leverage emerging trends in surveillance camera systems, while also enabling the configuration of cameras to operate in such systems. The method comprises displaying configuration images on mobile computing devices and enabling the cameras to view and capture those images within image data. The configuration images are then derived from image data from the surveillance cameras using integrated or separate analytics systems. Then, configuration information from the mobile device can be paired with corresponding surveillance cameras by reference to the configuration images. In one example, cloud image data storage is allocated as part of this setup and configuration process.

System and method for configuring surveillance cameras using mobile computing devices

A surveillance camera and image data storage system is disclosed. The system includes surveillance cameras that generate image data. Each of the surveillance cameras calculates a self priority value for uploading the image data and sends its self priority value over a local network to the other surveillance cameras. Within each surveillance camera, a rules engine compares its self priority value and the self priority values from the other surveillance cameras to determine whether to upload the image data over the network to a remote storage system or to save the image data within each surveillance camera. This functions as an arbitration system implemented at the level of the individual cameras to arbitrate uploading of the image data, which limits network bandwidth. In another example, each surveillance camera calculates its self priority value in response to receiving security events from other security devices over a network.

Method and system for surveillance camera arbitration of uplink consumption

A system and method of designating regions of interest for surveillance cameras is disclosed. The system enables definition of regions of interest simultaneously across multiple cameras. This is useful when the cameras are positioned to monitor the same region of interest within their scenes. Each camera monitors image data for designation of regions of interest, stores the regions of interest, and analyzes the image data from the cameras based on the regions of interest. Preferably, each camera has an integrated analytics system for analyzing the image data based on the regions of interest. A setup process between a user device (e.g. mobile phone) and the cameras enables definition of the regions of interest. In embodiments, the regions of interest are defined in response to the cameras tracking either the user device or an optical device as an operator moves the devices to outline the regions of interest within the scene.

System and method for designating surveillance camera regions of interest

A system and method for overlap detection in a surveillance camera network is disclosed. An analytics system of the system receives image data captured from the cameras and detects motion within the image data. The analytics system then correlates detected motion among the image data from the different cameras and determines overlap of fields of view of the cameras. In a preferred embodiment, a mobile user device held by an installer is moved through a critical path at the premises while the cameras are capturing the image data, and the analytics system determines whether the user device/installer is included in the image data from at least two of the cameras. In another embodiment, the analytics system determines overlap by determining correlated motion detection events associated with motion occurring at substantially the same time in image data from two or more different surveillance cameras and inferring that the motion is related.
