Backing plates are provided for use with abrasive disks designed to permit a view of the surface while abrading is occurring. This is achieved by the removal of portions of the circumference of the plate and preferably also viewing apertures in the body of the plate.

Accessories for an angle grinder include a disposable rotary sanding disk having quite large shaped ventilating/viewing apertures, for use with a resilient backing plate also having shaped ventilating apertures. The apertures of one or both parts are shaped so that snagging of the apertures on projections from the work surface is minimized and to facilitate air flow across the work surface during use. This air flow helps in cooling the work and ejecting detritus, so minimising clogging effects. The ventilating apertures also facilitate viewing the work to be sanded through the spinning disk during the abrasion process, so that operator feedback is immediate. The holes also give the sanding disk more resilience so that a greater area comes in contact with the work and the disk wears more evenly over its abrasive surface.

Accessories for an angle grinder include a tool comprising a rotary disk having releasably attached to its surface, an annular attachment having a cutting or abrading, (&ldquo;shaping&rdquo;), surface, and rest means in a rest zone for supporting the grinder on a surface to be shaped. The rest means may be a non-rotating nose beneath the grinder; a rubbing contact mounted on a flat tool or simply part of the surface of a convex tool. Tilting the grinder about the rest means gives effective control of the tool. Steeper tilts cause the cutting or abrading surface to bite more deeply into the surface to be shaped. The grinder is preferably stroked toward the user with the cutting or abrading zone trailing. Most disks are perforated. Work to be shaped can be seen through the spinning disk during use. The annular attachment can have a variety of cutting or abrading surfaces.

Wire brush attachment for angle grinder

The invention provides a wire brush disc shaped grinder accessory that has segments removed from the circumference of the disc to provide visibility of the work surface while in use and with the bristles of the wire brush arranged in groups around the disc. It also provides a cup shaped wire brush tool wherein the bristles are arranged in groups. In this way both provide a cooler cutting action.
