A process for making a phosphorus-containing compound is disclosed. The process comprises contacting a compound of formula (A) wherein Rand Rare selected from optionally substituted aryl, aryloxy, alkyl and alkoxy groups or can be combined to form cyclic structures; and Ris methyl, ethyl, isopropyl, n-butyl, i-butyl, t-butyl, phenyl or benzyl; and a compound of formula (B) wherein R-Rare selected from optionally substituted aryl, aryloxy, alkyl and alkoxy groups. The phosphorus-containing compound can then be used as a flame retardants for polymers, especially for epoxy, polyurethane, thermosetting resins and thermoplastic polymers. Such flame retardant-containing polymers can be used to make protective coating formulations and ignition-resistant fabricated articles, such as electrical laminates, polyurethane foams, and various molded and/or foamed thermoplastic products.

Phosphorus-containing compounds useful for making halogen-free, ignition-resistant polymers

A process for making a phosphorus-containing compound is disclosed. The process comprises contacting a compound of formula (A) wherein Rand Rare selected from optionally substituted aryl, aryloxy, alkyl and alkoxy groups or can be combined to form cyclic structures; and Ris methyl, ethyl, isopropyl, n-butyl, i-butyl, t-butyl, phenyl or benzyl; and a compound of formula (B) wherein R-Rare selected from optionally substituted aryl, aryloxy, alkyl and alkoxy groups. The phosphorus-containing compound can then be used as a flame retardants for polymers, especially for epoxy, polyurethane, thermosetting resins and thermoplastic polymers. Such flame retardant-containing polymers can be used to make protective coating formulations and ignition-resistant fabricated articles, such as electrical laminates, polyurethane foams, and various molded and/or foamed thermoplastic products. 

The present invention is a flame-retardant polyurethane composition comprising (a) a thermoplastic polyurethane-based resin component, (b) a phosphorus flame retardant particulate filler, and (c) a low melting temperature phosphorus flame retardant agent.

Flame retardant polyurethane composition

The invention provides a polyolefin composition comprising: A) a propylene-based polymer having a flex modulus of greater than 1500 MPa and an HDT of greater than 100&#xb0; C.; B) an ethylene/&#x3b1;-olefin interpolymer having Tg of less than &#x2212;30&#xb0; C., a tan delta, measured at 0.1 radians/s at 190&#xb0; C., of less than 3, an HDT that is greater than, or equal to, the peak melting temperature of the ethylene/&#x3b1;-olefin interpolymer, measured by differential scanning calorimetry; and C) a fiber filler; and D) a nitrogen source and/or a phosphorus source, wherein at least one source is derived from at least one organic compound, or salt thereof; and wherein the weight ratio of the propylene-based polmer:ethylene/&#x3b1;-olefin interpolymer (A:B) is from 9:1 to 6:4.

TPO compositions, articles, and methods of making the same

Certain brominated polymers compounds are effective FR additives for combustible organic polymers. These FR additives include: i) a copolymer having styrene and 2,3-dibromopropylmaleimide repeating units; ii) a brominated polyester having aliphatically bound bromine; iii) an allyl ether of a ring-brominated novolac resin; iv) a 3-bromo-2-hydroxypropyl ether of a novolac resin; v) a 2,3-dibromopropyl ether of a cresol novolac resin; and vi) a brominated ROMP polymer or copolymer.

Brominated polymers as FR additives and polymer systems containing same

A thermally stable brominated butadiene copolymer, such as brominated styrene/butadiene block copolymer, brominated random styrene/butadiene copolymer or brominated styrene/butadiene graft copolymer, preparation of the brominated butadiene copolymers, use of the brominated butadiene copolymers as a flame retardant additive and polymeric compositions, both foamed and non-foamed, that incorporate a flame-retarding amount of brominated butadiene copolymer.
