Method to protect features during repair cycle

A solid oxide fuel cell is disclosed. The fuel cell includes a porous anode, formed of finely-dispersed nickel/stabilized-zirconia powder particles. The particles have an average diameter of less than about 300 nanometers. They are also characterized by a tri-phase length of greater than about 50 &#x3bc;m/&#x3bc;m. A solid oxide fuel cell stack is also described, along with a method of forming an anode for a solid oxide fuel cell. The method includes the step of using a spray-agglomerated, nickel oxide/stabilized-zirconia powder to form the anode.

A method of preparing a solid oxide fuel cell is described herein, as well as the fuel cell itself. The method comprises forming a cathode layer comprising a strontium composition on a ceramic electrolyte layer; and forming a barrier layer between the cathode layer and an overlying interconnect structure comprising chromium, so as to substantially prevent the formation of strontium chromate.

For example, the hermetically sealed lamp may have one or more endcaps diffusion bonded to an arc envelope, such as a ceramic tube or bulb. The hermetically sealed lamp also may have one or more tubular structures, such as dosing tubes, which are mechanically closed via cold welding or crimping. Localized heating, such as the heat provided by an intense laser, also may be used to enhance any of the foregoing bonds.

Hermetical lamp sealing techniques and lamp having uniquely sealed components

A system and method for hermetically sealing a lamp. Certain embodiments of the lamp have an arc envelope having an open end and, also, an end structure diffusion bonded to the arc envelope at the open end. The end structure also has a dosing passageway extending into the arc envelope. In other embodiments, a lighting device is provided with an end structure adapted to close an open end of an arc envelope, and a dosing tube diffusion bonded to the end structure. Another embodiment of the lighting device has an arc envelope and an end structure diffusion bonded to an open end of the arc envelope.

A method for repairing an article made of a fiber-reinforced ceramic matrix composite comprises attaching sections of a fiber-reinforced tape to the damaged area and then infiltrating the sections with the ceramic matrix or ceramic matrix precursor material. The material around the damaged area may be removed first to form a depression that is then filled with sections of the fiber-reinforced tape and further infiltrated with the ceramic matrix or ceramic matrix precursor material. The repaired article shows stress-strain curve similar to a defect-free article.
