A lighting arrangement has a lighting module with a sensor element in parallel with a light source arrangement between module terminals. A measuring system is provided for measuring, at the module terminals, a signal which is dependent on the sensor element when the light source arrangement is turned off. Thus, sensing is integrated into or connected to a lighting module, such as LED module.

In one aspect, a device is adapted to transmitting power to, or receive power from, a remote device over first and second communication lines (DALI+, DALI−) and to communicate with the remote device over the first and second communication lines. A first driver implements a first communications protocol which comprises coupling the first and second communication lines together to encode a first signal level and isolating the first and second communication lines from each other to encode a second signal level. This may be a DALI protocol. A second driver implements a second communications protocol which comprises modulating the first communication line with a signal having a low modulation depth. The second communications protocol means there is always a voltage difference between the two communication lines to enable continuous power harvesting. A second aspect relates to efficient power transfer by disabling a current limiter function, when possible.

The at least one attenuation element is further arranged in relation to the field of view of the sensor for the signal output from the sensor to indicate, when an occupant is moving along the path, a direction of movement of the occupant along the path. The controller is arranged to control the light source based on the direction of movement of the occupant, and a cover plate is arranged between the at least one location of said plurality of locations and the sensor, and also arranged between the at least one location and the light source, wherein the cover plate is transparent or translucent to said visible light, wherein the at least one attenuation element forms part of the cover plate, and wherein outside, or away from, the attenuation element, the cover plate is at least partly transparent to infrared radiation.

According to a concept of the invention, there is proposed a communication interface that enables communication and power transfer between a luminaire and a connectable module. The communication interface comprises a driver circuit which generates an AC power supply for a primary winding, the primary winding being magnetically couplable to a secondary winding for powering the connectable module. A data sensing arrangement is adapted to detect a variation in the voltage/current of the primary winding which has been induced by the secondary winding. A control arrangement selectively couples a first and second DC input, upon which the AC power supply is based, together or to a common voltage.

Apparatuses for controlling light modules () comprise first circuits () for detecting first control information transported via first signals and second circuits () for converting first control information into second control information. The second control information is transported via second signals. The first and second control information define light settings of the light modules () and have different representations. The first control information may be phase-cut information or first data. The second control information may be a parameter of the second signal or second data. The apparatus may further comprise a third circuit () for converting power from the first signals into third signals destined for power inputs () of the light modules ().
