A Bluetooth component (e.g., a Bluetooth chip) and a digital signal processing (DSP) component (e.g., an audio DSP) of a device may directly handle link condition sensing (e.g., link quality monitoring) and audio bitrate determination. The Bluetooth component may perform link condition sensing (e.g., link quality monitoring) and the Bluetooth component and/or the DSP component may perform link condition processing and audio bitrate determination. Encoding scheme (e.g., audio bitrate) determination and modification may be performed independently by the Bluetooth component and DSP component, such that encoding schemes may be adapted to link conditions while other hardware (e.g., connected to the DSP) is operating in a low power or sleep state. In some cases, the Bluetooth component may sense link conditions and transmit bitrate information directly to audio encoding blocks of the DSP component.

Power optimized link quality detection and feedback

In an embodiment, a user equipment (UE) is configured to operate in accordance with different wireless personal area network (WPAN) radio access technologies (RATs). According to various aspects, techniques to enable implicit and/or explicit transmit (Tx) beamforming in a wireless personal area network are provided. In particular, the implicit transmit beamforming may be enabled during certain events, frames, and/or other conditions when a channel between a beamformer and a beamformee is reciprocal (i.e., packets are received and transmitted on the same frequency). In such cases, the beamformer may estimate channel state information (CSI) based on a packet received from the beamformee and use the estimated CSI to steer a beam in a direction towards the beamformee. In use cases that implement explicit transmit beamforming, the beamformee may estimate the CSI based on a packet received from the beamformer and provide the estimated CSI to the beamformer, which may then use the estimated CSI received from the beamformee to steer a beam in a direction towards the beamformee.

Wireless personal area network transmit beamforming

In one aspect, a method of wireless communication by a wireless device includes generating, by the wireless device, a protocol data unit (PDU) header and a corresponding PDU payload of an angle of arrival (AoA) packet. The generating of the PDU payload includes inserting a supplemental field and a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) field into the PDU payload. The supplemental field is configured to enable another wireless device to determine an angle of arrival of the AoA packet and the CRC field corresponds to a CRC of at least the supplemental field. The method also includes transmitting the AoA packet with a single antenna of the wireless device.

Wireless communication for angle of arrival determination

This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatuses for detecting motion based on wireless signals. In some implementations, a receiving device may receive, from a transmitting device, a packet containing a sequence. In some aspects, the packet may be a Bluetooth packet, and the sequence may be contained in a supplemental information appended to the Bluetooth packet. The receiving device may estimate angle information of the packet based on the sequence, and determine a difference between the estimated angle information and a reference angle. The angle information may be an angle of arrival (AoA) or an angle of departure (AoD) of the packet. The receiving device may detect motion based on the determined difference.

Bluetooth based motion detection systems

Aspects disclosed in the detailed description include packetizing encoded audio frames into compressed-over-pulse code modulation (PCM) (COP) packets for transmission over PCM interfaces. In one aspect, a COP packetizing circuit is configured to receive an encoded audio frame generated from a PCM frame, and generate a COP packet that includes the encoded audio frame irrespective of the audio format. The COP packet is generated with a packet length proportional to a PCM length of the PCM frame, allowing the COP packetizing circuit to transmit the COP packet over an isochronous PCM interface with a lower bit rate than the PCM frame to reduce power. The COP packetizing circuit provides a mobile computing device with a single packetizing scheme that supports multiple audio formats, and allows for reducing power through bit rate scaling.

Disclosed are techniques for improving performance of short-range wireless network channel scans using receiver diversity. In an aspect, an electronic device having two or more short-range wireless network receiver antennas determines whether to utilize different receiver antennas of the two or more short-range wireless network receiver antennas to perform concurrently scheduled channel scans for different short-range wireless network radio access technologies (RATs) supported by the electronic device, or to perform an accelerated channel scan for a single short-range wireless network RAT of the different short-range wireless network RATs supported by the electronic device, and performs the concurrently scheduled channel scans or the accelerated channel scan based on the determination.

Aspects disclosed herein relate to providing peer communications between NFC enabled devices using an active communication mode. In one example, a communications device is equipped to detect a remote NFC device field within an operating volume, establish a peer communication link with the remote NFC device using an active communication mode, determine that the peer communication link is to be deselected, and transmit a deselection request message to the remote NFC device indicating to the remote NFC device that it has been deselected while maintaining the peer communication link. In another example, a communications device is equipped to sense an operating volume, as part of an active communication mode collision avoidance procedure, determine that no field is sensed, initiate an unmodulated carrier as part of switching an operating field to an on state, and maintain the unmodulated carrier for a collision avoidance threshold duration of time.

A method and apparatus for reducing power consumption associated with establishing a connection in a near field communication system is disclosed. According to some embodiments, when requesting an active mode NFC connection, the initiator device can selectively extend transmission of its NFC carrier signal by an extended period of time after transmitting a polling command to the target device. The extended period of time allows the target device additional time to stabilize its clock signal and transmit its own NFC carrier signal back to the initiator device. As a result, the initiator device may wait to enable its NFC clock generator until after receiving a polling command that requests the active mode NFC session. In this manner, when the initiator device requests a passive mode NFC connection, the target device may not enable its NFC clock generator, thereby reducing power consumption.

The present application presents example data routing methods and apparatuses for reducing the amount of nonvolatile memory required to store secure element application locations associated with a near-field communications device. For example, the present disclosure presents a method of communication routing in a near-field communication device, which can include receiving, at a near-field communications controller (NFCC), a routing request message (e.g. from a requesting device), wherein the routing request message includes an original application identifier (AID) associated with an application. The example method may also include generating a compressed AID by applying a hash function to the original AID, reading an entry corresponding to the compressed AID in a routing data structure, wherein the entry contains one or more secure element pointers associated with one or more secure elements, and querying at least one of the secure elements to determine whether each contains the application.
