A technique for determining a precoder for a radio transmission via a channel () including at least two transmit antennas () is disclosed. As to a method aspect of the technique, channel state and optionally channel noise characteristics are measured by a measuring unit (). Based on a result of the measurement, a subset of precoders is selected out of a codebook () including a plurality of precoders by a selecting and determining unit (). The selecting and determining unit () further determines a precoder for precoding the transmission out of the subset.

Technique for precoder determination

A technique for storing softbits of messages received according to a Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (HARQ) protocol is disclosed. As to a method aspect of the technique, a first storage () and a second storage () are provided. The first storage and a second storage include a plurality of memory segments () allocatable to HARQ processes. A first message related to a first HARQ process is received. The first message is protected by a channel code of the HARQ protocol and represented by softbits. The softbits of the first message are stored in a first segment of the first storage. The first segment is allocated to the first HARQ process. The first storage is accessible by a channel decoding unit () for decoding the channel code. If a number of allocated segments in the first storage, the decoding of which has not been yet completed, exceeds a threshold, the allocation for the first HARQ process is changed from the first segment in the first storage to a second segment in the second storage.

Technique for storing softbits

A technique for assessing the reliability of bits received by a modulation symbol on a channel is provided. A providing circuit provides an input dataset including a plurality of input values. The input values correspond to different transmit hypotheses according to a modulation alphabet used for encoding the bits in the symbol. A computing circuit performs a first computing step and a second computing step. In the first computing step, a first intermediary dataset is computed by combining the input values of the input dataset according to a first combination scheme. In the second computing step, a second intermediary dataset is computed by combining the input values of the input dataset according to a second combination scheme. The second combination scheme is different from the first combination scheme. An assessing circuit assesses the reliability of the bits based on the first intermediary dataset and the second intermediary dataset.

Demodulation technique

A technique for de-mapping a point in a constellation diagram into a bit sequence is presented. The de-mapping provides for each bit of the bit sequence an output value with a sign of the output value indicating a bit value and a magnitude of the output value indicating probability information in the form of a distance to a decision boundary in the constellation diagram. A method aspect of the technique presented herein comprises receiving a signal indicative of a constellation point, wherein the constellation point represents a bit sequence having a most significant bit and at least one next significant bit, deriving a first output value for the most significant bit based on a first decision boundary, receiving a priori information, and deriving a second output value for the next significant bit based on the first output value, the a priori information and a second decision boundary.

De-mapping technique with provision of probability information including a priori information

This disclosure presents a receiver apparatus () and corresponding method that advantageously use ISI-canceling combining weights, as are generated for ISI suppression in the receiver's data signal combining operations, to suppress the effects of ISI from determinations of receiver frequency error. Such suppression yields more accurate receiver frequency error determination and, correspondingly, improved receiver frequency error compensation.
