Variable displacement compressor, with center borein a center part of cylinder block, includes: first boresupporting plain bearingof drive shaft; second borewith a peripheral wall radially outside of first bore; and third boreconnected to a crank chamber and radially outside of a first bore. A pressure supply pathfor flowing a part of a discharge refrigerant from a discharge chamber to the crank chamber includes: second bore; a first pathcommunicating second borewith the discharge chamber; a second paththat communicates with second bore, and axially extends from one end surface of drive shafttoward the inside of drive shaft; and a third pathsubstantially orthogonal to second pathand opens to an outer peripheral surface of drive shaft, and communicates with the crank chamber.

In a variable displacement swash plate type refrigerant compressor (), a stopper () is provided for setting an initial angle of the inclination angle of a swash plate () when a drive shaft () is not driven. When the drive shaft () is driven by a driving power source of the compressor () under a non-operation condition of a refrigerant circuit, the stopper () is moved to permit the inclination angle of the swash plate () to be reduced from the initial angle in response to increase of compression work of the compressor () so as to suppress the increase of the compression work to save the driving power for the compressor ().
