In a wireless communication network, an access node controller determines data throughput over a target access node. A source access node wirelessly exchanges user data with User Equipment (UE) and determines data throughput. The source access node receives signal parameters for the source access node and target access node from the UE. The source access node compares the signal parameters and responsively transfers a handover request that indicates the target node and the UE throughput over the source node. The access node controller receives the handover request and compares the source throughput to the target throughput to determine a handover value. The access node controller transfers the handover value to the source access node. The source access node compares the signal parameters based on the handover value, and responsively hands-over the UE to the target access node which wirelessly exchanges user data with the UE.

In an example method, a base station determines that a UE is CSFB capable and that the base station is currently serving a relay on a first carrier of a plurality of carriers. The base station provides a coverage area on which to serve UEs, and the coverage area operates on the plurality of carriers. Based on at least the determining that the UE is CSFB capable and that the base station is currently serving the relay on the first carrier, the base station assigns the UE to operate on a carrier of the plurality of carriers other than the first carrier rather than having the UE operate on the first carrier on which the base station is currently serving the relay.

A wireless communication system to detect a sleepy-cell condition. The wireless communication system comprises a remote radio head that receives network data comprising user data and beamforming instructions from a baseband unit. The remote radio head transfers the user data to wireless communication devices over wireless column beams responsive to the beamforming instructions. The remote radio head further detects a loss of the beamforming instructions for a time threshold and responsively transfers a sleepy-cell alarm indicating the baseband unit.

Systems and methods are described for allocating resources from an access node in a wireless network. Power reports may be received from multiple wireless devices at the access node. Based on the received power reports, the access node may classify each wireless device of the multiple wireless devices as a high power wireless device or a low power wireless device. An offset scheduling factor may be selected for wireless devices classified as high power wireless devices at the access node. Resources can be allocated for high power wireless devices using the selected offset scheduling factor.

Management of carrier usage by replays and CSFB capable UEs

Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for providing enhanced access class barring in LTE are provided. In embodiments, the method includes receiving, on a mobile device, a SIB2 message. A barring factor associated with the SIB2 message is identified. In embodiments, the barring factor is dynamic based on traffic parameters associated with a network. An upper limit for a random number is set on the mobile device and the random number is generated. The random number is generated and compared to the barring factor. If the random number is less than the barring factor, access to the network is provided to the mobile device. In embodiments, an additional random number is generated for special users or devices if the random number is greater than or equal to the barring factor.

Enhanced access class barring mechanism in LTE

A method and system for paging of a wireless client device (WCD). When a wireless communication system encounters a trigger to page a WCD, the system will identify the WCD's most recent serving base station (e.g., the WCD's currently registered base station, or the base station providing the WCD's currently registered coverage area) and will determine whether that base station is a relay base station or rather a non-relay base station. If the base station is a non-relay base station, then the system will provide the initial page of the WCD via just that base station (e.g., as in the zone based paging process discussed above). Whereas, if the base station is a relay base station, then the system will provide the initial (ordinal first) page of the WCD via both that base station and the donor base station that provides the relay base station's wireless backhaul connection.

Methods and systems are disclosed that support the aggregation of acknowledgement messages and control messages. Advantageously, acknowledgement and negative acknowledgement indications for multiple client nodes are combined into a single aggregated message which is broadcast or multicast to the multiple client nodes. Based on unique identifiers assigned to each client node, client nodes are grouped such that the aggregated acknowledgement messages can be efficiently encoded to conserve both network capacity when they are transmitted, as well as processing capacity when they are parsed by the client nodes. If code division multiple access (CDMA) technology is used, the aggregated acknowledgment message can be transmitted without CDMA spreading to effectively broadcast or multicast it to multiple client nodes. A similar technique can be employed for the efficient broadcast or multicast of aggregated control messages.

Disclosed is a method and system for release of a UE's context record in response to failure of air interface communication. As disclosed, a wireless communication system includes a base station that has a protocol stack defining a series of logical processing layers through which the base station sequentially processes data for transmission to a UE. The layers include an upper layer and a physical layer at which the base station processes the data for communication over an air interface to the UE. Accordingly, the base station detects failure of air interface communication between the base station and the UE. In response to detecting the failure, and without waiting to detect at the upper layer a further failure corresponding with the failure of the air interface communication, the base station transmits to a network controller a UE-context release request requesting release of bearer context that was established for the UE.

Embodiments disclosed herein provide systems and methods for override vocoder capacity operating point (COP) allocation. In a particular embodiment, a method provides determining a communication load on a wireless access node. Based on the communication load, the method provides allocating a first COP for a vocoder, wherein the vocoder is used on voice communications exchanged with the wireless access node. The method further provides determining a frame error rate of a wireless communication link between a wireless communication device and the wireless access node. If the frame error rate indicates that a COP of the wireless communication link should be lower than the first COP, the method provides allocating an override COP to the COP of the wireless communication link based on the frame error rate.

Disclosed is a method and corresponding apparatus to make use of hybrid-ARQ repetition factors as a way to differentiate service quality to various mobile terminals. Depending on a mobile terminal's subscription service class, such as the mobile terminal's PLMN, the mobile terminal may be made to use a particular hybrid-ARQ repetition factor. For instance, a mobile terminal of a high service class may be made to use a low hybrid-ARQ repetition factor, which may help the mobile terminal experience less downlink transmission delay and thus a higher downlink data rate. Whereas, a mobile terminal of a low service class may be made to use a high hybrid-ARQ repetition factor, which may cause the mobile terminal to experience more downlink transmission delay and thus a lower downlink data rate, and may further free up downlink transmission resources to facilitate better service for other mobile terminals.

Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for dynamically configuring VoLTE packet delay are provided. In embodiments, the method includes providing an initial packet delay for a connection between mobile devices associated with one or more base stations. The packet delay may be based on historical data, transporting media, and a number of hops between originating and receiving devices. Real-time data associated with the one or more base stations is received. In embodiments, the real-time data includes latency, capacity of the scheduler, and data associated with handoffs. The packet delay is dynamically configured to adjust for the real-time data.

Embodiments disclosed herein provide systems, methods, and software for increasing reference signal power to prevent communication format change. In a particular embodiment, a method of operating a wireless communication system includes identifying a wireless communication device with first communication format to second communication format switching capability. The method further provides allocating a center bandwidth in the first communication format for the wireless communication device. The method further provides identifying a handover event from the wireless communication device requesting a switch from the first communication format to the second communication format and increasing the reference signal power for at least the center bandwidth in the first communication format.

In systems and methods of maintaining a network connection of a wireless device, network connection information is associated with the wireless device and is maintained at a gateway node in communication with a first communication network and a second communication network. A first network connection between the wireless device and the first communication network is terminated, and a second network connection is established between the wireless device and the second communication network using the network connection information, wherein the association of the network connection information and the wireless device is maintained until the second network connection is established.

Methods and systems are provided for using DRCLocks for conducting call admission control. In an embodiment, an access node provides service to a plurality of access terminals on a carrier in a coverage area, where the plurality of access terminals does not include a first access terminal. The access node receives a request for new service on the carrier in the coverage area from the first access terminal over an air interface, and responsively determines whether an aggregate-DRCLock condition is met. If the aggregate-DRCLock condition is met, the access node denies the request for new service.
