The invention pertains to novel insecticidal compounds derived fromstrains. New proteins designated Cry1Jd, Cry9Fa, and Cry1Bf, and insecticidal fragments thereof are provided, as well as DNA sequences encoding these proteins or their insecticidal fragments. The present invention relates to new DNA sequences encoding an insecticidal Cry9Fa protein and insecticidal parts thereof, which are useful to protect plants from insect damage. Also included herein are micro-organisms and plants transformed with a DNA sequence encoding an insecticidal Cry9Fa protein and processes for controlling insects and to obtain a plant resistant to insects.

Novel bacterial insecticidal proteins and equivalents thereof were isolated. These proteins and the DNA sequences encoding them are useful to make insecticidal compositions or transgenic plants to protect plants from damage by insects, particularly coleopteran insects.
