Certain phosphonoacetyl aminoacids have been found to be useful antiviral agents suitable to combat herpes virus infection of various types.

Phosphonoacetyl aminoacids

A method of treating herpes simplex infection in warm-blooded animals by administering to said animals an amide of phosphonoacetic acid of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is C.sub.2 -C.sub.10 alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 cycloalkyl, benzyl, or adamantyl; and R' is H or C.sub.2 -C.sub.10 alkyl, or its inorganic salts.

Amides of phosphonoacetic acid for treating herpes simplex virus type 1

New antimicrobial agents of the formula ##STR1## where R.sub.1 includes halophenyl, loweralkyl, phenyl, nitrophenyl, dinitrophenyl, nitrofuryl, and nitrothienyl; R.sub.2 includes hydrogen and loweralkyl; and N.sub.het includes a heterocyclic moiety bonded through a nitrogen thereof which is sufficiently basic to form quaternary ammonium salts.

3,5-Substituted-1,2,4-oxadiazole inner quaternary ammonium salts

A method of inhibiting the activity of reverse transcriptase in Rous sarcoma viruses and other viruses containing reverse transcriptase. The method comprises subjecting the reverse transcriptase to an enzyme inhibiting effective dosage of a compound of the formula: ##SPC1## Wherein R' is hydrogen or hydroxyl and R is C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, cyclohexyl, phenyl, benzyl, and substituted benzyl.
