A bone plate includes a main body defining one or more openings and a cavity. A support member formed of a different material than the material of the main body is disposed in the cavity and defines one or more openings, each of which is coaxial with an opening of the main body. The support member extends into circumferential recesses defined by the main body. Circumferential projections bounding each main body opening are disposed between circumferential projections of the main body and are disposed entirely within the support member. Bone plate systems, methods of treatment, and methods of manufacturing are also described.

Hybrid bone plates and related systems and methods

A method of shaping a bone screw with an automated device having a CNC unit includes rotating a blank coupled to a spindle about an axis defined by a coordinate system of the CNC unit, advancing a cutting tool proximally through an exterior of the blank at a speed to form a helical thread along a shaft, and reducing the speed to provide a variable, proximally decreasing pitch along at least a portion of the shaft. A first cutting tool is automatically transitioned toward disengagement from the blank when 1) a relative axial position between the first cutting tool and the blank coincides with a first coordinate of a predetermined location, and 2) a relative rotational position between the first cutting tool and the blank coincides with a second coordinate of the predetermined location. The first coordinate is along the axis, the second coordinate is an angular position about the axis, and the first and second coordinates are defined by the coordinate system. A second cutting tool is moved into engagement with the exterior of the blank so that the second cutting tool engages the blank substantially at the predetermined location, in a manner enabling continuation of the thread.

Bone compression screws and related systems and methods

A navigable probe system and method of use is provided. The system may include a handle assembly having a locking mechanism enclosed and a stylus, a cannula, and a tracking device extending from the handle assembly. The stylus may include undercuts for receiving pins of the locking mechanism. A cam of the handle assembly may rotate such that in a first position, the pins of the locking mechanism may be engaged with the undercuts and in a second position, the pins of the locking mechanism may be disengaged from the undercuts releasing the stylus from the locking mechanism. The stylus may be slidably engaged with an inner diameter of the cannula. In some arrangements, the handle assembly may include a quick connect system that in a first position attaches the cannula to the handle assembly and in a second position releases the handle assembly and thus stylus from the cannula.

Tension isolating adjustable adapters are disclosed, along with kits and systems containing same, as well as methods of production and use thereof. The tension isolating adjustable adapters include a percutaneous device holder that can be releasably connected to a percutaneous device via a locking element, and a tensioning member that engages the percutaneous device holder. The tensioning member has at least one tension pad that is shaped and configured to be disposed about the percutaneous device insertion site in the patient's skin, and the engagement of the tensioning member(s) to the percutaneous device holder allows for adjustment of the tension pad(s).

Tension isolating adjustable adapter for external fixation and methods of production and use thereof

A bone screw, comprising a proximal end and a distal end spaced from the proximal end in a distal direction along a longitudinal axis of the bone screw and a cannulation extending from the proximal end to the distal end. The bone screw further including a threaded region extending along at least a portion of a length of the screw, the length extending from the proximal end to the distal end. The threaded region defining at least one external thread that extends about the longitudinal axis along a helical path. The threaded region includes at least one flute that extends to the distal end of the bone screw. The at least one flute defines an associated at least one cutting tooth that, in turn, defines a cutting face oriented so as to define an angle with respect to the longitudinal axis. The angle is in the range of about 5 degrees and about 25 degrees, and the flute circumferentially interrupts at least a portion of the external thread.

Angled flutes in cannulated bone screws

Kits and systems are disclosed that include one or more segments of elastically deformable membrane in combination with one or more external fixation members and optionally in combination with one or more tension protector pads. Also disclosed are methods of use of the kits and systems in methods that involve stretching the elastically deformable membrane and applying the stretched membrane to the skin of a patient, and releasing the tension on the membrane, thus causing compression of the skin to which the membrane is applied. The method may further include the optional steps of inserting one or more external fixation members through the membrane/skin combination and into a bone segment, applying a distraction force to the one or more external fixation members, and separating at least a portion of the membrane so as to release a portion of the tension in the skin at a rate that is similar to a rate at which the distraction force is applied.
