A universal multi-orientation bracket design for attaching solenoids to a housing of a hydraulically actuated variable valve system. The bracket having at least two sidewalls, an upper cross member, a cupped lower surface and at least one mounting flange. The cupped lower surface is shaped to insert a solenoid main body and gaps included in the side walls for a protruding solenoid connector.

A method of using a mid-position lock VCT phaser in an engine with a stop-start mode of operation with the steps of: when the engine is in a stop mode of the stop-start mode: adjusting a duty cycle of an actuator coupled to the control valve of the phaser to command the control valve to the retard mode; maintaining the duty cycle of the actuator to command the control valve to remain in the retard mode until an automatic restart of the engine. The invention proposes a push-rod valve train having an adjustable valve tappet (). This has an outer part (), an inner part () and a lost-motion spring (), which forces the inner part () towards a relative position, at least one retainer ring (), which is fixed in an annular groove () of the outer part () and which interacts with a stop face () of the inner part (), being provided for fixing the relative position, said retainer ring having lugs () extending radially inwards and separated by a fitting gap (). In this the free movement of the valve push rod () relative to the lugs () is assured by the provision of a torsional locking means (), which serves to fix the radial position of the fitting gap () inside the annular groove ().

The finger follower has an inner and outer body and a torsional lost motion spring positioned at its lash adjuster end of the outer body. The torsional lost motion springs have a short leg that abuts the outer body and a long leg that contacts the inner body. The torsional spring is located above the pivot point of the finger follower so as to provide a low mass moment of inertia and to reduce the weight over the valve stem end of the follower.

The finger follower has an inner and outer body and a torsional lost motion spring positioned at its lash adjuster end of the outer body. The torsional lost motion spring has two helical parts each with a short leg that abuts the outer body and a long leg that contacts the inner body. The torsional spring is located above the pivot point of the finger follower so as to provide a low mass moment of inertia and to reduce the weight over the valve stem end of the follower.
