A voice-interaction device includes a plurality of input and output components configured to facilitate interaction between the voice-interaction device and a target user. The plurality of input and output components may include a microphone configured to sense sound and generate an audio input signal, a speaker configured to output an audio signal to the target user, and an input component configured to sense at least one non-audible interaction from the target user. A context controller monitors the plurality of input and output components and determines a current use context. A virtual assistant module facilitates voice communications between the voice-interaction device and the target user and configures one or more of the input and output components in response to the current use context. The current use context may include whisper detection, target user proximity, gaze direction tracking and other use contexts.

Context-aware control for smart devices

Systems and methods for keeping a display screen active that include a fingerprint sensor coupled to a processing system and configured to perform a check for a presence of a finger. The processing system may be configured to alert an operating system to cause a display screen to be in an active state based on a detection of the finger; perform a future finger sense action to detect that the finger is still interacting with the fingerprint sensor; report to an operating system, based on detecting that the finger is still interacting with the fingerprint sensor, that the display screen should remain in the active state, wherein the operating system causes the display screen to be in the active state based on the report.

Methods and devices are provided that employ multi-function keys to present a preview of potential actions to be taken by user key presses. The input device includes a plurality of key assemblies having a touch sensitive surface. The processing system can sense when one or more respective key assemblies have been contacted or pressed by the object. When the one or more respective key assemblies has been contacted by the object, an indication of a potential action taken in the program is provided to the user. The method determines whether the one or more respective key assemblies have been contacted or pressed by an object. A potential action to be taken is determined and an indication of the potential action is provided.

A user interface system includes a plane registration module configured to identify a first plane within an environment, and a gesture and posture recognition (GPR) module configured to observe a first allocation gesture, a second allocation gesture, a first modal gesture, a second modal gesture, and a third modal gesture within the environment. A region definition module is configured to determine a first region comprising a first portion of the first plane based on the first allocation gesture, and to determine a second region comprising a second portion of the first plane based on the second allocation gesture. A method for gesture identification includes determining a first gesture is performed on a surface sensing region. The first gesture includes at least one input object. The method further includes determining a first action corresponding to the first gesture, and issuing, based on performing the first gesture, a first report reporting the first gesture and the first action. The method further includes determining, within a first predefined length of time subsequent to performing the first gesture, a presence of the at least one input object in an above surface sensing region, determining a second action corresponding to the first gesture and the at least one input object being in the above surface sensing region within the predefined length of time, and issuing a second report reporting the second action.
