The instant invention is an aqueous based blend composition and method of producing the same. The aqueous based blend composition comprises (a) an aqueous polyolefin dispersion comprising the melt blending product of one or more base polymers and one or more stabilizing agents in the presence of water and optionally one or more neutralizing agents, wherein the polyolefin dispersion has an average volume particle size diameter in the range of from 400 to 1500 nm; and a pH range from 8 to 11; and (b) an acrylic emulsion acrylic solids having an average weight particle size diameter in the range of from 75 to 450 nm; an acid level in the range of from 0.25 to 5 percent by weight of acid monomers based on the weight of the acrylic monomer, and a weight average molecular weight in the range of from 200,000 to 5,000,000 g/mole, and a glass transition temperature (T) in the range of from 7 to 100&#xb0; C., wherein said acrylic emulsion has a pH in the range of from 7 to 11; wherein said aqueous based blend composition has a solid content in the range of from 15 to 70 percent by weight of solids, based on the weight of the aqueous based blend composition, and a pH in the range of from 7 to 11.

Aqueous based blend composition and method of producing the same

An aqueous based blend composition including (a) an aqueous polyolefin dispersion comprising the melt blending product of one or more base polymers and one or more stabilizing agents in the presence of water and optionally one or more neutralizing agents, having an average volume particle size diameter from 400 to 1500 nm, and a pH from 8 to 11; and (b) from 0.1 to 50 percent by weight based on the solid content of the dispersion one or more crosslinking agents is provided.

The present invention provides aqueous compositions useful as zero VOC coating compositions having a % opacifying pigment volume concentration (% OPVC) of from 2 to 25 and comprising (i) an opacifier composition of an at least partially polymer encapsulated opacifying pigment, a polymer opacifying pigment composite or their mixtures, with the opacifying pigment, encapsulated in and/or as a composite with at least one soft polymer having a measured glass transition temperature (measured Tg) of 5&#xb0; C. or less, and (ii) a hard binder polymer having a measured Tg of at least 30&#xb0; C. and a weight average particle size of 120 nm or less, wherein the ratio of the weight average particle size of the opacifier composition to that of the hard binder polymer is from 2:1 to 12:1 and the volume ratio of the opacifying pigment to the soft polymer solids in the opacifier composition is from 2:5 to 1:1.

The present invention provides aqueous compositions for use in coating wood joinery, especially for exterior use, comprising (a) one or more dihydrazide compounds in a total amount of from 0.5 to 4 wt. %, based on the total weight of composition solids and (b) of one or more aqueous multistage emulsion copolymers containing, as (i) a first stage, an emulsion copolymer having a glass transition temperature (Tg) via differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) of from &#x2212;50 to 30&#xb0; C., and containing, in copolymerized form one or more monoethylenically unsaturated phosphorous acid monomers and, one or more keto group containing amide monomers, and, as (ii) a second stage, an emulsion copolymer having a DSC Tg of at least 50&#xb0; C. to 125&#xb0; C., wherein the weight ratio of (i) the first stage to (ii) the second stage, based on copolymer solids, ranging from 50:50 to 90:10.

Aqueous multi-stage emulsion copolymer compositions for use in joinery applications

An aqueous coating composition containing a polymer which contains calcium or magnesium and polymerized residues of three monomers. The first monomer is a complexing monomer having a log stability constant for calcium or magnesium from 0.3 to 4. The second monomer is methacrylic acid. The third monomer is a crosslinker.

The present invention provides fast-drying aqueous compositions that lower the cost of making roadway markings without impairing the quality or appearance of the markings made therewith. The aqueous compositions comprise one or more hollow core binder having an average particle size of from 200 to 500 nanometers (nm), preferably from 300 to 470 nm, and made of a first polymer having a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 50&#xb0; C. or more and containing one or more void, the first polymer being substantially encapsulated by one or more second polymer having a Tg of &#x2212;30&#xb0; C. or more, preferably, &#x2212;20&#xb0; C. or more. Fast-drying aqueous compositions may be one component or two component compositions. One component compositions comprise one or more volatile base, one or more polyfunctional amine, and one or more hollow core binder with a second polymer chosen from, for example, an anionically stabilized emulsion polymer, a polyamine functional polymer, a polymer having strong pendant cationic groups containing and mixtures thereof. The polyfunctional amine can be part of the hollow core binder. Two component compositions comprise one or more aqueous hollow core binder and an absorber component. The present invention also provides coatings and roadway markings made from the fast-drying aqueous compositions.

An aqueous traffic paint including hard-soft polymer particles, polyfunctional amine, and volatile base is provided. The hard-soft polymer particles, which contain soft polymer and hard polymer, have a hydrophobicity characterized by a Hansch parameter of at least 3. Also provided is a method of producing a traffic marking on a road surface using the aqueous paint. The aqueous traffic paint is suitable for application to road surfaces, including oily road surfaces, and may be applied at temperatures below 15&#xb0; C.
