Provided is a method for the automated selection of sample documents or pages from a large collection, and more particularly an application of the method in a proof presentment environment&#x2014;where the method is employed for selection and review of representative or extreme pages from a large document, such as one scheduled for printing. The method characterizes pages or documents in a multi-dimensional vector space based upon a set of characteristics, and then uses clustering techniques to group the pages, enabling the selection of typical pages from the groups, outlier pages from extremes lying outside of the groups, or both typical and outlier pages.

Method for automated document selection

A method and system is provided for obtaining an archival model of a selected print job executed in a network imaging system comprised of a plurality of imaging engines. The print job is archived to include job data comprising the imaging information defining the desired job and the production status performance data of the particular engine at about the time of the executing of the job. The job data and the engine performance data are associated and archived for later retrieval for enhanced temporal and distributed consistency in a reprinting of the job.

Consistency of document reprints is improved by recording characteristics of a reference printing system used to produce a reference printing of a document, determining related characteristics of a reprint printing system, retrieving the recorded characteristics and compensating for differences between the reference system and the reprint system in the reprint system prior to using the reprint system to produce reprints of the document. Analytical test prints (TPs) are produced with the respective printing systems in close temporal association to the production of the respective reference prints and reprints. TPs can be customized according to aspects of the document. TP customization allows the compensation to address aspects of the printing systems that have a bearing on perceived consistency in the reprints. TPs can be customized with regard to colors in test patches or both the colors and locations of test patches on a page. Compensation is based on measurements of the TPs.

Methods and systems for maintaining color consistency in print-on-demand applications are disclosed. Initially, a plurality of default color settings applicable to a plurality of print-on-demand operations can be established. Thereafter, color consistency can be selectively imposed across a plurality of print-on-demand operations based on the plurality of default color settings applicable to the plurality of print-on-demand operations. Finally, a print-on-demand media product can be rendered in response to selectively imposing color consistency across the plurality of print-on-demand operations. An end-to-end print-on-demand workflow is therefore disclosed herein that describes how to create and print color books while maintaining color consistent at each step of in the work follow.

A method for representing a digital image in a plurality of image processing states using at least one reference digital image and at least one residual image comprising the steps of manipulating an input digital image using at least one digital image processing enhancement step to form at least one additional digital image in a different image processing state; designating at least one of the digital images to be a reference digital image in a reference image processing state; and determining at least one residual image representing differences between one of the reference digital images and one of the additional digital images, whereby the residual image(s) and the reference digital image(s) can be used to form digital image(s) in different image processing states.
