An integrated GHz ultrasonic neuro-cognitive system including a chip-cyborg having a network of biological neurons that forms a biological information processor, which can be controlled by electronics, optics, and GHz ultrasonic beams. In one example, the chip-scale microsystem includes a CMOS chip with RF CMOS and piezoelectric thin film transducers that can generate GHz ultrasonic waves, which can be phased to form narrow beams, achieving significant ultrasonic intensity to affect neurons. With a sufficient number of ultrasonic pixels, the focal point of the beam can be narrow enough to focus effect specific section of a neuron to enhance or decrease synaptic weights owing to ultrasonic radiation forces and acoustic streaming.

GHz-THz ultrasonics and optics for neurotechnology devices, methods, and applications

A gel composition that forms a three dimensional gel microenvironment that is formed of an adhesive protein, a maleimide-functionalized poly alkylene oxide, a linking agent and a nanoparticle, the components forming an interpenetrating network that exhibits improved mechanical and biochemical properties, as well as creates a favorable microenvironment for cellular growth and proliferation. The gel composition also creates a favorable microenvironment for testing various agents on normal or diseased cells, including chemotherapeutic agents on cancer cells or other diseased cells.

Bio-adhesive gels and methods of use

Provided are compositions and methods that relate ex vivo organoids that contain B cells and stromal cells in a three dimensional material includes a hydrogel. The hydrogel can be formed without exposure to ultraviolet light from an electronic ultraviolet light source. The hydrogel contains silicate nanoparticles (SiNPs) that are ionically bonded to a polyampholytic gelatin. The three dimensional material can be held at a temperature of at least 37 degrees Celsius and does not liquefy. The organoids exhibit mechanical properties that are similar to certain lymphoid tissues, and can include a germinal center. Methods of making the organoids are included, as are high throughput screening approaches that use the organoids for screening a variety of test agents. The organoids can synthesize a variety of compounds that can be recovered from the organoids or the organoid culture medium.
