Systems and methods are described for distributed electric park brake control. The vehicle's electronic stability controller (ESC) is configured to monitor the status of an electric parking brake switch and to provide control signals to a motor-on-caliper actuator based on the status of the electric parking brake switch. A secondary brake system controller (for example, a brake pedal 'booster' unit) that is configured to control at least one function of the braking system that is not related to the parking brake function is further configured to determine whether the ESC is operating properly and, in response to determining that the ESC is not operating properly, to monitor the status of the electric parking brake switch and provide the control signals to the motor-on-caliper actuator based on the status of the electric parking brake switch.

Notifying a driver of a number of hydraulic pressure support events. In one example, a system includes a parking brake assembly; a human-machine interface; and a parking brake electronic processor configured to generate a command to apply one or more braking components of the parking brake assembly to at least one wheel of the vehicle and generate a request for additional hydraulic pressure support. The system also includes a host electronic processor configured to receive the request for additional hydraulic pressure support; generate a command to build extra hydraulic pressure; and provide the command to the pump motor. The host electronic processor is also configured to increment a counter indicating a number of hydraulic pressure support events performed; compare the counter to a threshold value; and provide an alert to the driver via the human-machine interface when the counter exceeds the threshold value.

A system and method for classifying an actuation of an electric parking brake of a vehicle is presented. In one example, the system includes a sensor configured to sense a vehicle parameter, an output device, a memory including an electric parking brake usage profile, and an electronic controller configured to receive the electric parking brake usage profile, receive the vehicle parameter, detect an actuation of the electric parking brake, and in response to detecting an actuation of the electric parking brake: determine a reason for the actuation of the electric parking brake, determine an attribute of the vehicle based on the vehicle parameter, classify the actuation of the electric parking brake based on a numerical value of the attribute and/or the reason for the actuation of the electric parking brake, update the electric parking brake usage profile based on the classification, and output the updated parking brake usage profile.

Systems and methods for determining a fault in an electronic controller. The system includes a first electronic controller, a second electronic controller, and a remote electronic controller. The second electronic controller executes a diagnostic service routine configured to access a restricted section of a memory associated with the first electronic controller, receives a failure code from the restricted section of the memory associated with the first electronic controller, generates a logging file including the failure code, and sends the logging file to the remote electronic controller. The remote electronic controller determines a fault in the first electronic controller based upon the logging file.

Methods and systems for monitoring a switch included in a vehicle. One method includes a method of monitoring a switch included in a vehicle. The method includes obtaining a current vehicle speed, and dynamically, by a controller, generating a duration for detecting a stuck state of the switch based on at least the current vehicle speed, detecting, by the controller, a duration of a high signal received from the switch. The method also includes comparing, by the controller, the duration of the high signal to the generated duration, and detecting, by the controller a stuck state of the switch when the duration of the high signal satisfies the generated duration.

A braking system and method with redundant wheel speed sensing. In one example, the braking system includes a first electronic control unit connected to a first power supply and a second electronic control unit connected to a second power supply. The second electronic control unit is communicatively coupled to the first electronic control unit. The braking system also includes a first wheel speed sensor, a second wheel speed sensor, a third wheel speed sensor, and a fourth wheel speed sensor. The first wheel speed sensor and the second wheel speed sensor are directly coupled to and powered by the first electronic control unit and are communicatively coupled to the second electronic control unit. The third wheel speed sensor and the fourth wheel speed sensor are directly coupled to and powered by the second electronic control unit and are communicatively coupled to the first electronic control unit. The first electronic control unit and the second electronic control unit each configured to calculate a wheel speed from the first wheel speed sensor, the second wheel speed sensor, the third wheel speed sensor, and the fourth wheel speed sensor.

A private controller area network (CAN) is provided in a vehicle to notify non-targeted electronic control units (ECUs) of unauthorized attempts to access a target ECU. Each ECU on the private CAN stores a common encrypted hacking notification key (HNK) and a unique identification code. When a first vehicle system ECU detects an unauthorized access attempt via the public CAN, it sends a warning message to the other ECUs via the closed, private CAN.

A system and method for avoiding collisions in a traffic intersection using radar sensors is disclosed. The system detects the location, speed, size, and direction of travel of objects, including vehicles and vulnerable road users, in and approaching a traffic intersection. Using this information, trajectories for all objects are determined, and, if a likelihood of a collision is determined, one or more traffic signal transitions are delayed in an attempt to avoid the collision.

A global positioning signal based learned control event prediction method and apparatus includes a learning auxiliary module connected to a communication bus of a vehicle. The arrangement stores events and event locations using global positioning signals for a vehicle traveling along a path. When the vehicle travels the same path a second time, the detected events and event locations are determined. When the events match at the same event locations, a predictive action is determined for a future occurrence of the vehicle approaching the event location. Thus, as the vehicle approaches the event location, the predictive action, for example pre-filling of the vehicle brakes or pre-tensioning of the seat belts occurs.

Methods and systems for analyzing failsafe conditions. One method includes receiving, at a processor, a message transmitted over a vehicle bus, wherein the message includes a data field. The method further includes accessing at least one data attribute included in a database file associated with the vehicle bus. The at least one data attribute includes at least one of (a) a safety critical attribute, (b) an automotive safety integrity level attribute, (c) a maturation time attribute, (d) a warning indicator attribute, and (e) a diagnostic trouble code attribute. The method also includes converting the data field based on the at least one data attribute.
