Described herein are systems, methods, and software to manage internet protocol (IP) address allocation for tenants in a computing environment. In one implementation, a logical router associated with a tenant in the computing environment requests a public IP address for a new segment instance from a controller. In response to the request, the controller may select a public IP address from a pool of available IP addresses and update networking address translation (NAT) on the logical router to associate the public IP address with a private IP address allocated to the new segment instance.

Managing internet protocol (IP) address allocation to tenants in a computing environment

An example method of mitigating oversubscription of traffic to edge services gateways in a data center includes: receiving, by a host of the data center, traffic metrics corresponding to the ESGs; determining traffic congestion at a first active edge of the ESGs in response to the traffic metrics; dividing, in response to the traffic congestion, a classless inter-domain routing (CIDR) block assigned to the first active edge into a first CIDR block and a second CIDR block; and creating, in a routing table of a router, a first route between an internet protocol (IP) address of the first active edge and the first CIDR block, and a second route between an IP address of a second active edge of the ESGs and the second CIDR block.

Mitigating oversubscription of traffic to edge nodes in a data center

In some embodiments, a method configures, at a first host, an overlay channel for sending packets to check whether a failure has occurred at a workload. The first host and a second host are connected via a layer 3 network. The first host generates a packet to check whether the failure has occurred at the workload and encapsulates the packet. The first host sends the encapsulated packet to the second host using the overlay channel via the layer 3 network. The packet is decapsulated and forwarded to the workload at the second host.

Split-brain prevention in a high availability system during workload migration system during workload migration

Described herein are systems and methods for allocating to tunnel endpoints to virtual machines on a host. In one example, a host identifies when a new virtual machine is coupled to a virtual switch and determines a tenant associated with the new virtual machine. The host further determines whether a tunnel endpoint is allocated to the tenant and, when a tunnel endpoint has not been allocated, allocates a new tunnel endpoint to the tenant and maps the new virtual machine to the new tunnel endpoint.

Allocation and management of tunnel endpoints in software defined networks

In some embodiments, a method detects a state of a first session between a first workload and a second workload. The first workload and the second workload send packets in the first session via a first path to maintain a state of the first session. When the state of the first session indicates the first workload is down, the method receives information for network metrics of network traffic being sent in the first path. The method determines when the second workload should transition from a standby mode to an active mode to take over as an active workload in an active/standby configuration between the first workload and the second workload based on the information for the network metrics.

Failover prevention in a high availability system during traffic congestion

Described herein are systems and methods that manage configuration updates for networking manager virtual machines. In one example, a method includes identifying an update for at least one networking manager virtual machine. In response to identifying the update, the method notifies a daemon on the host with the networking manager virtual machine to establish a channel with a control plane agent to receive communications in place of the networking manager virtual machine. The method further identifies when the configuration modification is complete for the networking manager virtual machine and notifies the daemon on the host to break the channel with the control plane agent.

Managing downtime to networking managers during configuration updates in cloud computing environments

In some embodiments, a method receives a control message from a second host. The control message includes a first address to use as a next hop to reach an active workload that has migrated to the second host from another host. The method reprograms a local route table to include a policy to send packets to check a liveness of the active workload with the next hop of the first address. A packet is sent from a standby workload to the active workload using the next hop of the first address to check the liveness of the active workload. The packet is encapsulated and sent between the first host and the second host using an overlay channel between a first endpoint of the overlay channel on the first host and a second endpoint of the channel on the second host.

Split-brain prevention in a high availability system during workload migration

The disclosure provides an approach for overcoming the limitations of a cloud provider network when a data center with software-defined network and multiple hosts, each with multiple virtual machines, operates on the cloud provider network. Single-host aware routers and a multiple-host aware distributed router are combined into a hybrid router in each host. The hybrid router receives a route table from the control plane of the data center and updates the received table based on the locations of VMs, such as edge VMs and management VAs on each of the hosts. An agent in each host also updates a router in the cloud provider network based on the locations of the virtual machines on the hosts. Thus, the hybrid routers maintain local routing information and global routing information for the virtual machines on the hosts in the data center.
