The present invention relates to a catalyst comprising two layers on an inert catalyst carrier, wherein a layer A lying directly on the catalyst carrier contains at least one platinum group metal and one cerium/zirconium/SE mixed oxide, and a layer B, applied on layer A and in direct contact with the flow of exhaust gas, contains at least one platinum group metal and a cerium/zirconium/SE mixed oxide, wherein SE stands for a rare earth metal other than from cerium, characterized in that the fraction of SE oxide in the cerium/zirconium/SE mixed oxide of layer A is less than the fraction of SE oxide in the cerium/zirconium/SE mixed oxide of layer B.

Double-layer three-way catalyst with improved aging stability

A double-layer three-way catalyst for purification of the exhaust gases from internal combustion engines which has excellent activity and thermal stability is described. The catalyst contains active aluminum oxide and a first cerium/zirconium mixed oxide which are both catalytically activated with palladium in the first layer applied to a catalyst support. In the second layer which is in direct contact with the exhaust gas, the catalyst likewise contains an active aluminum oxide and a second cerium/zirconium mixed oxide which are both catalytically activated with rhodium. The second cerium/zirconium mixed oxide has a higher zirconium oxide content than the first mixed oxide.

Three way catalyst

The present invention relates to an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst comprising on a honeycomb carrier a catalytic coating. Said honeycomb carrier has an upstream end and a downstream end and a plurality of flow channels are running from the upstream end to the downstream end. The catalytic coating comprises catalytically active precious metal components of which at least one component exhibits a concentration profile along the honeycomb carrier starting with a low concentration at the upstream end which increases along the flow channels up to a maximum value and then decreases again to the downstream end.
