Telecommunication networks and methods are disclosed for providing a group session service for a plurality of participants. An application server in the telecommunication network receives a plurality of real-time media streams from the participants of the group session, and identifies voice media in the individual media streams. The voice media represents the spoken voice of the participants, and includes talking intervals separated by idle intervals (i.e., pauses in the spoken voice). The application server inputs the talking intervals as audio media elements into an audio media queue in the order received, and also outputs the audio media elements from the audio media queue in the order in which the audio media elements were inputted (i.e., in a first-in-first-out (FIFO) fashion) to generate a collective media stream for the group session. The collected audio stream is then provided to the participants of the group session.

Voice group sessions over telecommunication networks

IMS networks and methods are disclosed for providing purchasing sessions to mobile devices that are located proximate to a business. IMS network includes an application server that provides advertisements for the business to mobile devices that are located proximate to the business (i.e., the advertisements are pushed to the mobile devices). Responsive to an advertisement, the user of a mobile device may contact the application server through the mobile device to purchase one or more items from the business. The application server responds to the mobile device with receipt information for the purchase. The user may then request delivery of the purchased item through the mobile device by transmitting some or all of the receipt information to the application server. The application server may then schedule delivery of the item to the user of the mobile device.

A system and method for resource control management implementing Diameter protocol is disclosed. The system includes a border gateway which is configured to send an overload message and a controller that is acting as a Diameter protocol server which is configured to receive the overload message and block a number of calls to the border gateway. The controller would also be configured to perform an audit function which includes clearing media resource ports. The overload message sent by the border gateway may also include a reduction percentage, which will dictate the percentage of calls which will be blocked.

When a subscriber record is moved from a first HLR to a second HLR that utilizes a different protocol, the wireless communication system sends two queries for location information for the mobile station, one to the first HLR and one to the second HLR, simultaneously. Two responses are received, one from each of the HLRs. The valid response is recorded in a separate table for future use. The invalid response is discarded. The next time a call comes in for the mobile station, the table is traversed to determine if the HLR has been updated for the mobile station. If so, the location request is sent only to the system in the table. If the table does not include information for the called mobile station, simultaneous queries are sent to the first and second HLRs.

Method for optimizing home location register queries in a wireless communication system

An apparatus, method and system are disclosed for providing a default mode for authentication failures in a mobile telecommunication network. The system includes an authentication center (typically co-located within a home location register), an adjunct network entity, and an originating mobile switching center. The home location register generally stores information pertaining to a mobile unit, such as a cellular or PCS mobile telephone. The adjunct network entity contains one or more application nodes, such as an announcement application node for providing an announcement on a call leg to the mobile unit. When the network has been accessed by a mobile unit through a call leg, the originating mobile switching center is configured to perform an authentication procedure. The originating mobile switching center further is configured, when the authentication procedure has resulted in an authentication failure, to receive a message from the authentication center to deny the mobile unit access to the network, to terminate a communication session with the mobile unit, and to route the call leg to the announcement application node for the provision of an announcement on the call leg to the mobile unit. Following such an announcement, the originating switching center is also configured to route the call leg to a customer service center, for example, to reprogram the mobile unit.

Apparatus, method and system for providing a default mode for authentication failures in mobile telecommunication networks

The present invention provides a method and apparatus for restricting call terminations for a roaming mobile unit. A serving MSC, which is an MSC providing call processing a mobile unit that is not the home MSC of the mobile unit, sends a registration notification request to the home location register (HLR). The HLR retrieves the termination access code parameter from the HLR and sends it to the serving MSC. The termination access code parameter includes a value that indicates if the mobile unit is allowed to roamer port calls. The parameter is stored at a VLR associated with the serving MSC. When a call request comes in to the serving MSC and requests a roamer port call with the mobile unit, the serving MSC checks the value of the termination restriction code to determine if it should terminate, or complete, the call.

One embodiment of the present invention is a method for controlling the number of mobile-telephones transmitting acknowledgments to broadcast short messages (BSM) over a same set of random access channels at a same time. In this embodiment, the transmissions of BSM acknowledgments is controlled by the wireless communication system using random access channel restrictions and random access techniques. Specifically, the random access channel restrictions reduce collisions among acknowledging mobile-telephones and call processing mobile-telephones by allocating one or more specific random access channels over which a BSM acknowledgment can be transmitted, and the random access techniques reduce collisions among acknowledging mobile-telephones by distributing transmissions of the BSM acknowledgments over a period of time.

Random access channel congestion control for broadcast teleservice acknowledgement messages

In a wireless telecommunications network, apparatus and method for code gapping messages from mobile switching centers to switching control points. The switching control point, (SCP), sends a stand-alone message containing only code gap control information to each of the MSCs served by the SCP. The code gap control message specifies the types of messages which are to be subject to code gap control, as well as the code gap interval and overall timer interval. The message further specifies such details as the range of digits of calls for which messages are to be subject to code gap control. Advantageously, the specification of the details of code gap control is made more efficient.

Automatic code gapping (ACG) for wireless systems

A method of porting a wireless terminal's directory number from one wireless service provider to another is disclosed. One illustrative embodiment involves creating a temporary pointer in the recipient wireless service provider's Home Location Register that, during the inchoate porting process, directs a call for the directory number to the donor wireless service provider for completion in well-known fashion. When the porting process is complete, the temporary pointer is deactivated and call processing is completed by the recipient wireless service provider in well-known fashion.

Random access channel congestion control for broadcast teleservice

A process and apparatus providing local hunting of a telecommunication trunk in response to a request coming from an external base station or switching unit. This process and apparatus by utilizing the capabilities of a local switching module or node saves communication time and processor time of the overall system. If the local trunk hunt at the local switching module is unsuccessful, the request is forwarded to a centralized processor that subsequently notifies another switching module to hunt a trunk and set-up communication with the requesting external base station or switching unit. In such a case, the centralized processor uses status table data to select a switching module that should have a trunk available to fulfill the request of the external base station or switching unit.
