Systems and methods for an aircraft lighting system (ALS) are provided. The method includes co-locating a central light source subsystem including a blue light generator, red light generator, and green light generator, and a light generating control unit (LGCU) comprising a processor, and distributing a plurality of passive light-heads around an external surface of the aircraft. Each passive light-head of the plurality of passive light-heads is operationally coupled to a first side of a respective light switch of a respective plurality of light switches, the light switch being coupled on a second side to a light emitting output of the central light source subsystem. Controlling and actuating the light generators and the light switches in accordance with a load profile is performed by a light generating control unit (LGCU).

Architecture and method for aircraft lighting system using a centrally located red, green, and blue (RGB) light source subsystem and a plurality of distributed passive light-heads

Methods, devices and systems are provided for harmonizing output display characteristics of one component with those of other components onboard a vehicle, such as an aircraft. A line-replaceable unit (LRU) suitable includes a display driver to be coupled to a display command bus, a data storage element to maintain calibration information for the display driver, and a control module coupled to the display driver and the data storage element to identify a current state of an input command signal from the display command bus, identify an adjustment for the display driver based on the calibration information using the current state of the input command signal, and automatically operate the display driver in accordance with the adjustment.

LRUs and related night vision display harmonization methods

A single motor, two axis searchlight system includes a shaft, a motor, at least a first plurality of light sources, and a controller. The shaft is mounted for rotation about a rotational axis. The motor is coupled to the shaft and is operable to rotate the shaft about the rotational axis. The first plurality of light sources are coupled to the shaft and are rotatable therewith about the rotational axis. The first plurality of light sources are disposed along a first plane that is disposed at a first angle relative to the rotational axis. The controller is in operable communication with the motor and the first plurality of light sources. The controller configured to: selectively energize the motor to thereby cause the first plurality of light sources to rotate about the rotational axis, and selectively energize one or more of the first plurality of light sources.

An aircraft lighting system (ALS) and apparatus which includes: a lighting generator control unit (LGCU) controlling a light source generator for generating a first, second and third type of light to each passive light head; a light bus coupled to the light source generator to receive the first, second, and third types of light and for converting the first type of light to a fourth type of light; a plurality of light transmission elements coupled to the light source generator; a plurality of light switches responsive to a switch command from the LGCU to optically not direct or direct light from the light bus to a light transmission element; a light conversion element connected for converting the first type to the fourth type of light; and the LGCU configured to command the light source generator to generate light in accordance with a load profile.

Aircraft lighting system to enable sharing of optical energy between light assemblies with passive light heads

A laser light assembly includes a substrate, a reflective phosphor plate, a plurality of laser diodes, a light shield, at least one mirror, a plurality of beam-shaping lenses, and a first lens. The reflective phosphor plate is coupled to the substrate and converts incident blue laser light into white light. The laser diodes emit the blue laser light. The light shield prevents the blue laser light emitted by the laser diodes from escaping the assembly. The mirror reflects the blue laser light emitted from each laser diode toward a predetermined position on the reflective phosphor plate, whereby the reflective phosphor plate emits white light. The beam-shaping lenses are disposed between a different one of the laser diodes and the mirror. The first lens receives the white emitted from the reflective phosphor plate.

Compact laser light assembly

Provided systems and methods for an aircraft lighting system (ALS) include a centralized blue generator that supplies blue light to a plurality (N) of passive light-heads distributed at various locations on the aircraft. A load profile for use of the N passive light-heads during all flight phases and operational phases is developed and uploaded into the system. Each of the passive light-heads is operationally coupled to the blue light generator via a respective light transmission element that is gated with a respective one of N light switches. A light generating control unit (LGCU) is coupled to the blue light generator, and controls the generation and actuation of blue light, in addition to controlling light switch positions, as a function of navigation data and the load profile. Each of the N passive light-heads comprises a respective light conversion element to convert the blue light into red, green, or white light.

Architecture and method for aircraft lighting system using a centralized blue light source and a plurality of distributed passive light-heads

A lighting device including a plurality of light-emitting semiconductor devices. The light-emitting semiconductor devices are separated into at least two subgroups. The lighting device further includes a plurality of optics separated into at least two subgroups, which are arranged relative to the plurality of light-emitting semiconductor devices such that each one of the plurality of light-emitting semiconductor devices of a first subgroup is located at a focal point of a respective optic of a first subgroup of the plurality of optics, and such that each one of the plurality of light-emitting semiconductor devices of a second subgroup is located at a focal point of a respective optic of a second subgroup of the plurality of optics. The optical properties of the first subgroup and second subgroup of the plurality of optics are different. The lighting device further includes a controller module configured to control at least two current signals supplied from a power source to each of the at least two subgroups of light-emitting semiconductor devices, respectively. The controller module is configured to modify the beam width and the peak intensity of the emitted beam of light by varying the magnitude of the respective at least two current signals.

Lighting devices with variable beam patterns

A light emitting diode (LED) lamp assembly includes a base including an electrical connector adapted to electrically engage a socket. A thermally conductive enclosure is coupled to the base, and a printed circuit board is disposed within the thermally conductive enclosure. The printed circuit board is operably electrically connected with the base and the electrical connector and thermally coupled to the enclosure. An LED is disposed on an exterior surface of the housing and electrically coupled to the printed circuit board. The thermally conductive enclosure is adapted to mechanically and thermally engage the socket to sink heat generated by the printed circuit board and the light source from the lamp assembly into the socket and an associated reflector.

A lighting device for a vehicle. The lighting device has a PAR form fit, and includes a housing with a circumferential wall. The circumferential wall has an inner surface, an outer surface and an opening for light emission. The device includes a plurality of light emitting semiconductor devices. The plurality of light emitting semiconductor devices are mounted on a surface of a substrate such that the peak emitted light intensity direction of each one of the plurality of light emitting semiconductor devices is directed toward the central axis. A second surface of the substrate is in thermal contact with the inner surface of the circumferential wall. The device also includes a plurality of curved reflecting surfaces arranged between the plurality of light emitting semiconductor devices and the central axis, arranged to reflect light emitted by the plurality of light emitting semiconductor devices through the opening.

An LED panel includes a support having a first side, a second side opposite the first side, and a window that extends from the first side to the second side. An LED is affixed to the first side. A diverter affixed to the second side. The diverter includes an angled portion, wherein the angled portion extends over a window portion that is less than all of the window.

Air mixing methodology and system to reduce the temperature of LEDs of a photocatalytic reactor

A rear position light-emitting diode (LED) light module for use on an aircraft. The light module includes a single printed circuit board (PCB), at least one light emitting diode attached to a first surface of the PCB and a single reflector and baffle device attached to the PCB. The baffle device provides an illumination pattern having a predefined angular pattern in the first plane. The illumination pattern does not overlap with light illuminated by port and starboard position lights of the aircraft. The baffle device includes a base section being planar, the base section comprises a cavity, first and second side sections attached to a first surface of the base section on opposing sides of the cavity, the first and second side sections intersect the first plane but not the second plane and a plurality of snap fittings attached to a second side of the base section.

Modular LED based aircraft rear position light

A Fresnel lens having a curved surface and a large number of Fresnel lens steps with rectangular cross sections for enhancing the aesthetics while providing a diffuser appearance. The cylindrical Fresnel lens can be uniformly divided into rectangular sections across the lens axis. The rectangular sections are alternative and are offset from the curved surface by a distance, which produces a very parallel output beam. The front face of the cylindrical Fresnel lens provides a square like pattern, which results in an aesthetic appearance with the effective usage of light and reduced production costs.
